GOETZ: K-291 "Pacifism" Upgrade with new images

I just upgraded to this medal and did a re-image for the web gallery.

K-291 PACIFISM Pazifismus), 1921, Cast AE, 60.3mm, R

Satirizing the situation that every member of the victorious Entente was able to play havoc with Germany and its territories. Under the label of “Pacifism” no defensive measures could be taken. On the obverse the German lamb assures the big aggressive wolf “Never again war.” The reverse shows the willful acts of the division of Upper Silesia and the vicious reaction of the Poles. The Frenchman standing on the Rhine’s shores does his part to hurt the German Michel with his rifle butt while the Pole on the left whips him back within his boundaries. Inscription on the reverse “Peace at any price.” 1921

    Pretty interesting medal, Cache!

It's interesting to see the jab at the Poles; they had at that time just pushed back the invading Russians to the east. I didn't know there was any trouble with Germany at this time. Silesia, by the way, has a lot in common with Germany, including a people who speak German as well as a Polish dialect consisting of many German root words.

Between the World Wars, the Germans had a lot of problems with the Poles, who kept working to expand their territory further at German expense. The Silesian plebescite, like most of them, was a cover for what had already been decided by the victors of WWI. Attacks against German territory by Poles was part of what led to the raising of the Freikorps.
