but what else would we get...
Justin is just a high school sophmore.

You're right, you are very very lame BKAH.
Even after Bonds has admitted to using steroids (which you have called all of us who have suspected as 'jealous' and 'haters') you STILL continue to back him!
Talk about sad.
Even BKAH's hero thinks steroid users are evil doers.
<< <i>Even after Bonds has admitted to using steroids

when did I say I "backed him"?
just because I am not calling for his head
on a stick like you guys, just means I do
not have the issues with "Hatred" that you
all seem to obviously deal with.
and yes, I find it that poor little justin
has to ONCE AGAIN resort to personally attacking ME
He is a child.
If you guys want to discuss Bonds, Steriods, sports,
politics or anything like that, I am fine with it,
and we can agree or disagree.
that is fine.
but Justin is just too immature to participate in a
real discussion about anything,
so he just makes STUPID Personal attacks
but again, it is what I would expect from a 10th grader
so it does not Surprise me as much as it
dissapoints me.
I just hope that everyone who has children
teaches them that cheating and taking drugs is the wrong way to get ahead in life.
Remember, too, that our small children learn to admire the heros that we, their parents, look up to ...

Wolfie, for once we agree......I have 2 very small children, and both mom and I have appreciated Bonds' feats over the years. However, a hero he is not to us; not in personality and demeanor, not in contributions to community, nor a few of his choices. But this does not make him trash or unworthy of regard. It simply means that his day-to-day persona and dealing are mostly foreign to our household and will always be. We can accept and live with that, even learn from it.
Now, as far as hero's are concerned, our kids will come to know my hero extremely well in due time. His name?........ Roberto Clemente.

I agree with that
and have a son that I will pass
that on to.
I will also pass on the concept
of "judge not, lest ye be judged"
and
"be concerned with the LOG in your own eye,
rather than the splinter in your brother's eye"
and
"innocent until proven guilty"
and
"it is better to Give than to recieve"
and
Matthew 6:14-15
"For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins."
all that he was the only Bonds fan I would be really lying. There are many many out there and many
are kids. Bonds has let down his family, his fans, and more importantly youth everywhere.
But at what cost is this? Is an early death to Bonds enough? Is a 50K fine or * in the record books going to
stop this? Must we force these "heroes" to admit this in the courts? Is the threat of purgury the only way
we can get the truth?
and what has happened to out national pasttime? We only talk about stats and records now a days. We don't
talk about ball parks and popcorn and remembering the last time you went to the park with your dad. When
is the last time anyone went and kept score? Would kids today even know how to keep score the old way?
I will be the first to raise my hand and say I have been guilty of not honoring the sport. To me its all about
the numbers. It should be more about the feats that Ripken and Clemens accomplished and less about
Mac and Bonds. Is drug use cheating.....it sure is, and if Bonds can do it an get away with it, then maybe one
day my son will think it is all right and suddenly he finds himself traveling down the same road Tim Bechler
did and we all know where that road ends!
We have had many great conversations about Bonds and where he stands, but now it is time to move on. We
each will decide in the next days just how great Bonds really was. Those opinions will probably never
change, but when Im talking one day with my son and he holds up a card of old 25, I will tell him the truth
and hopefully he will realize what is right and what is wrong.
Ill start (or restart) by saying I remember the grass in Clearwater. I remember yelling at Mike Schmidt, who
was on the on deck circle, trying to get him to turn around for a picture and then when he did the barrage
of flash bulbs. I remember the sound of crushed peanut shells under my feet as I walked to the bathrooms
around the 4th inning. I remember my dad sitting next to me showing me how to score a 6-4-3 double play and
then telling me about the one Mantle hit in Miami that went 800 feet. I remember the conversation we had
when the Phils were down 8 runs in the 6th...maybe we should leave early Kev, mom's making something good
for dinner tonight.
I don't think I ever said thanks dad...........
BKAH - were you the jury foreman for the O. J. Simpson criminal trial ?
By the way, I forgive YOU for not facing the reality that Bonds knowingly took roids for years,
and that he continues to 'bear false witness against thy neighbor' by denying it.
"How about a little fire Scarecrow ?"
You guys may dislike "JoeStalin" but that was a good write up!
I agree! Man i loved going to see the local farm team we had. "Orlando Cubs" they were called.
I'd love going on friday nights and stuff. Getting a hot dog...playing in the games on the field. Bringing my glove to try and catch fly balls.
Now it's about adults wanting to catch that bonds ball they can make some decent change on.
Barry Bonds has tarnished the game! He should forfeit his records...
However, steroids are only a fraction for the increase of the offensive production in this era. I already have a study that I am undertaking that explains pretty much what is at cause, and the increase is mostly already accounted for wtihout even considering steroids. If I had to venture a geuss, I am geussing 5-10% of the increase is due to steroids. This is a cross era study that really puts things into proper perspective on who really was the best, and who had the easiest environment to dominate his era. Bonds has had other advantages that have a greater impact on his place in history than steroids do. This study should be finished by next December, as I still have more research, and need to verify some more facts. It is very interesting, and I plan on sticking this one out.
Possibly time heals all, and allows us to forget / forgive as the years roll on.........
Ty Cobb, bully, racist, accused but not convicted of gambling on BB.
Babe Ruth, heavy drinker, womanizer.
Ted Williams, (My all-time favorite ballplayer), media relations similar to Bonds in his heyday, spit on / at fans.
Pete Rose, gambled on BB, lied about it.
There will always be players with different personalities. Not everyone can be Christy Mathewson or Cal Ripken Jr. No defense of any player or of his actions here, but we all are human and perhaps should not pre- judge so quickly and might recall some "characteristics" of past heroes. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
Nice piece !!!
Skip.....I like JS. He's actually very funny to read at times.
I think the real hero's in sports are the
Roberto Clemente's, Brian Piccolo's/Gale Sayers,
Curt Schillings/ALS...etc. etc.
Personally I don't think there are any hero's in sports.
All little kids when asked who their hero is,
like Joe Stalin referred to in his piece, the kids should
without hesitation say their dad.
I watched a great interview with Kyle Korver who
spoke this way about his dad. For those of you who
haven't heard of Kyle Korver yet, the kid can shoot
the three and play good old fashion hustle for the
Philadelphia 76ers. He's really worth the price of admission.
I hope he has a good future in the NBA.
<< <i>Even BKAH's hero thinks steroid users are evil doers. >>
heh..
didnt you used to have a Chicago Cubs icon instead of a Red Sox?
didnt you used to have a bunch of Kerry stuff in your sig line?
