Is it worth time, worthless, or otherwise, to predict coin prices based on rare metal values?

Do the incremental gains in gold. silver, platinum, really relate to coin prices, unless one is dealing with completely generic, unslabbed, circulated bullion, even if base raw metal prices do hold (somewhat) "skyrocket" values?
