Refractor Question

I'm bidding on a 1993 Finest Refractor that the seller has described as having "some refractor lines."

What does that mean? What does it do to the value? How would PSA grade a card with "some refractor lines"?

Here's a link. I don't see anything that would appear to be a refractor line. Then again, I have no idea what they are, so maybe they are plainly visible to everyone but the ignorant.

It is like where the refractor coating meets. Kind of like a seem. Not sure about PSA, cards with refractor lines tend to get less than ones without them. I guess it is comprable to how vintage collectors prefer well centered cards even if in the smae overall grade. Hope this helps.
  • Usualy you have to "tilt" the card to see them all depends on the graders and how the lines affect the over alleye appeal of the card. It may affect the grade it may not. From what I have learned one line wont have an impact on the grade Unless by the players face and or the line is very easy to detect.

AI, thanks for "The Answer." (bad joke...I know.)

Are the lines generally really obvious? If I'm just adding this to my player collection and not vitally concerned about value/PSA grade, do you think I'd be reasonably happy to get it at a good price?

The last raw Will Clark refractor went for $53 on ebay. Any guess on what a refractor with "some lines" will fetch?

It was very honest of the seller to add that to the descriptipn. And yes it should have an impact on price I say 40.00 or so. Good luck with the auction! Hope you get it cheap!

If it is for your player collection I think you will be very happy. Most buyers of 93 Refractors are set builders. After looking at the scan, the lines he is talking about may be the ones in the background, which are supposed to be there. He seems like an experienced seller, so I wouldn't think he would make this mistake but I don't see any other lines in the scan, but they may not have shown up. Either way, I say pursue it.
