I've got a problem.

Hi. I sold two proof nickels on eBay at the end of Sept. Sent Priority with Signature confirm. Heard from the buyer about Oct. 20, email saying hadn't recieved coins yet, when would they be coming? USPS site showed delivery attempt Sept 27th. (He did check the tracking and acknowledged that)
Lo and behold, on November 7th, I get the package back!!!. Post office has stamped: 1st notice- 9/27, 2nd notice- 11/1(!?) , return- 11/5. Marked unclaimed.
I email the buyer asking what he'd like to do: Have me resend package(He'd have to pay shipping again) or refund purchase less shipping. That was 11/9. no answer. 2nd try 11/20 no answer.

my question: what should I do next? I'd hate to think he'd neg me. I did everything right. But how long should I wait to resell coins?

Thank you all for any input. I find this forum very helpful and amusing!

Note to BigE: I'll be changing my screenname shortly, don't want to cause any undo confusion.

Are you sure about those dates? That's an an unusual length of time between notices.

Bottom line, though, is that it's the buyer that screwed up, not you. Resell the coins.

  • You've done everything right so far. I'd try a couple more emails over the next month or two.

I'd hold off reselling for at least 3 months - you've already been paid, so that shouldn't be a problem.

You have done everything correctly. It's not your fault if the Postal Carrier was perhaps out of little Pink Cards advising your customer to go down to the Post Office, if it blew away or the dog ate it.. The deal is this. He bought and paid for the merchandise. All you can do is try to communicate with him and tell him to be watching for his package. Tell him to watch for the item or a notice to pick it up at the Post Office. If it were me, after speaking with him I detected a hint of negativity, I'd simply refund everything...EVEN THE S/H.

You must determine where this guy is coming from. Is he going to neg you even if you ship it again at no charge? Does he have a nasty tone about this? What does he say when you tell him that the USPS allegedly attempted delivery more than once? Talk it out and either re-send the merchandise (you may consider eating the second S/H fees and even with this there is no guarantee he will not neg you) or see if he wants a total refund. Just ask him, point blank, "WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DO? HOW CAN WE RESOLVE THIS SITUATION?"

The point is try to do all you can to work with the guy. Unfortunately, it's just downright impossible to please certain individuals. Obviously he DID want it or he would have never bid or paid. I don't know but I sense some feedback extortion in the air. Do all that you can to please him in order to hopefully not get negged for something that is totally not your fault. Save all your emails.

Worse case scenario, he complains and negs you unjustly. You go to eBay and file a complaint against him, yourself, documenting everything. If you DO get out of this without a negative.....as soon as he has either posted your feedback, especially if it is a negative, or 90 days have elapsed and he can now NOT post ANY feedback at all, put him on your blocked bidders list, contact Square Trade and make sure to let the rest of us know his ID so that we can follow suit. Good Luck to you.

Yes. the dates are correct. I thought the post office was supposed to hold it for 2 weeks before returning. Seems like it started moving again after I checked the tracking.

No. The only contact I've had was 2 emails from him. 1st one was asking about the status of shipment. 2nd was a few minute later after HE checked the tracking and saw the attempt notice. He said he was checking with the po.

I haven't got the sense he's upset or anything. Nothing since those email I mentioned.

  • You could get his contact information through Ebay and call him about it.......maybe he doesn't check his e-mail very often, or his computer is down.
