Bonds was a Hall of Famer even without steroid use. He deserves the Hall entrance, as does Rose.

Suspend him for the 2005-2008 season.

Bonds may be an arrogant ass whose records are completely tainted, but I don't know that he violated any written rules of the game. You can't just formulate policies on the fly or try to retroactively apply them. As much of a disgrace as Bonds, Giambi, etc. are, Major Leauge Baseball and the players' union in particular bear much of the blame for this mess.
    imageimageimageimageimageimage
  • You would also have to throw Sheffield, McGuire and the others (the 5% or whatever it was that tested positive before) in that mix as well.

The key is to have the players union step up and allow mandatory drug testing for all. If they dont, there is nothing the owners or commissioner can do.
  • different day, same debate... we'd have to remove 90% of the HOF and 1% of current players would be eligible in the future. Everyone has (had) a bad/mean streak, drinks, does drugs, pops pills, shoots up something or the other, takes painkillers, no-doze, etc. there is no way to pin down one guy for steriods and nix him, almost everyone has taken something to enhance how they're feeling, numb a pain, or boost energy, not a lot of difference there.

There you have it folks............this will solve everything. If this happens everything from now on will be hunky-dory in baseball land. image

  • Wolfbear,

    I agree 100%.

Donald Fehr and the union have not represented their
players well by allowing them to cheat.

It hurts those guys who are trying to make a living by
    playing by the rules.

The blame should be 100% on the union heads on this one.
If they would have a 1 strike and your out rule, then we would never be here.

It will never happen. He won't even get a suspension.

MLB's subtance abuse program is WEAK. A single vioation will result in nothing but a slap on the wrist.

    what I am reading,
Bonds said that he may have taken
or used these substances without knowing
    it was steriods...

Giambi admitted flatout that he did it on purpose
(and the yankees are already trying to dump his contract)

so I am thinking it is just Jason we should crucify at this point.

Either way, Bonds, like McGwire's andro or Sosa's cork,
should have a chance to correct any possible mistake from this point on.

You are an ignorant fool if you believe for a second that bonds uses or takes ANYTHING without knowing EXACTLY what it does. The man is nearly paranoid with his food, doctors, everything. He has his own chef, doesn't eat with the team, doesn't trust the team physician (has his own), so for bonds to say 'oh I took that but didn't know what it was' just makes it seem like he believe everyone to be a fool.

BKAH you continue to look bonds' steroid use as it didn't really happen...you NEED TO WAKE UP.

    I agree.

    BKAH,

You either think Bonds is a complete idiot (If so you need to quit immediately as the prez of his fan club).

    or

    You are a dumb guy.

Me, I think Bonds is a lying sack of $hit. He knows.... oh yah he knows what he's been doing all along.
Thank goodness the juice didn't help him catch that ball against the Angels in the World Series. I am
glad that doodie head got no rings!

Thank god that karma isn't blind...Bonds deserves no rings for being the cheating b******d that he is, and will never get a ring for his cheating ways.

I hope everyone spits on his cards and he is blackballed out of the game.

    Good riddance, bonds.

I never said I did or did not believe him.
and today did not say he never did anything...

I just stated the fact that we only really
    know what we know. Period.

You and others can "speculate and hypothosize"
all you want, but fact is, you do not KNOW anything...
but you THINK you know everything.

    there is a big difference.

My question now, is IF he did do this (regardless of how it happened),
how exactly is it different that McGwire' Andro scandal
    or Sosa's Cork scandal.
They are shown as known cheaters but I have never
heard anyone call for their heads?

(and big mac was even know as a "jerk" to fans...
which seems to the be main thing Bonds has done
    wrong in his career....)

    imageimage
  • image

P.S. Andro was legal when Big Mac used it ... and I agree - Sosa is a joke too. At least he spent this past year showing what a bad player he actually is.
  • right or wrong, unless he gets banned like Rose (which is a 0% chance) he's still a 1st ballott HOFer when he retires... nearly every sportswriter the last couple of days has already said that.

  • << <i>P.S. Andro was legal when Big Mac used it .... >>

do you know what Bonds is supposed to have taken?
and is it "Illegal" according to MLB?

Andro was not illegal when Big Mac took it. Keep in mind he hit 49 homers in 1987 when he was young. As he got older, he took supplements to sustain his level of play into his 30's. He did not do anything illegal.

Anabolic steroids are not illegal in MLB. That is fact. I am not saying its good or bad.

Bonds cannot be banned from baseball. You don't have to like it, but that is just how the facts are stacked right now.

I think maybe what we thought was the juiced ball era is actually just the juiced muscle era. Guys like Gregg Jefferies should not have retired. Jefferies thought that the hit and run player was obsolete and thought he needed to retire. He was wrong. The hit and run guy was most likely legal, but the big bopper who gained 40 lbs of muscle in 2 years was juiced up and unfair to the competition.

  • Anabolic steroids are illegal without a doctor's prescription. So they are illegal in Major League Baseball.

    Deutschergeist,
Big Mac's body transformation was on a bigger scale than Bonds, he was a bean pole in '87, I highly doubt all he took was andro.

Delta sig chi 4, why not ban SOSA, Bagwell, Clemens, Sheffield ect. ect. and about 50% of the rest of MLB players then?

  • << <i>Anabolic steroids are illegal without a doctor's prescription. So they are illegal in Major League Baseball. >>

    actually they are not.
or were not until very recently.

just like doing cocaine did not
disqualify you even though it too is
    an illegal drug. (ask Strawberry)

and for this you can thank the Players Union.

  • << <i>Delta sig chi 4, why not ban SOSA, Bagwell, Clemens, Sheffield ect. ect. and about 50% of the rest of MLB players then? >>

    because they "like" those guys...

this witch hunt is only designed to
get Bonds (because they all hate him)
    and no one else.

A good example is that Sheffield and Bonds said the same thing
(that whatever they used, FROM THE SAME TRAINER, they were
told and believed it was non-steroidal, legal substances)

and people say "well, Bonds is lying, but poor Sheffield is innocent".

Proof that it is a conspiracy just to bring down One man.

**(jason giambi was just too stupid to keep his mouth shut
and so he too will go down as a result.)

    BKAH,

Again Im in full agreement with you.
  • The difference is that Sheffield was honest from the get-go. While Bonds was calling Shef a liar. The fact of the matter is that all of these players should be HEAVILY punished for this disgraceful act. Bonds deserves more of a punishment for tarnishing MLB's record books and history. Ban him from the sport and give him a prison sentence.

  • << <i>Bonds deserves more of a punishment...

    for what exactly?

    Accidently using steroidal products?

seems a bit stiff of a penalty for admitting that you
were being tricked by your trainer.

Fact is, you might THINK that he is lying,
but there is no proof he is lying.
and they are not going to kick him or Sheffield
out of the game for admitting doing something
that they say they did not even realize were steriods.

you need to get over it.

Only an accident if you believe the liar.

    BigKid ... are you blind?

    Answer this question:

DO you truly believe that Bonds has not been taking steroids for the past few years?

Barry Bonds is a liar, a racist, and a cheater.

  • << <i>DO you truly believe that Bonds has not been taking steroids for the past few years?
Barry Bonds is a liar, a racist, and a cheater. >>

    that is my point
( and I seem to keep having to repeat it
because you and aconte are a little dense...)

It does not matter what I think
    or what You guys think...

they are NOT going to ban a guy from
    Baseball (bonds, sheffield or whoever)
    based solely on the possiblity
that he might be lying about taking
    steriods without realizing it.

    they just are not.

Now, if they are able to PROVE that he did it
on purpose, then maybe they would ban him,
but they don't. In fact, the Only reason they
have any thing at all as it stands now, is that
    Bonds TOLD them himself.

Sorry to dissapoint you, but they will not ban
anyone because "they think he lied"
or "surely he had to know..."
or "wow, his head is sure big..."

    that is just silly.

    so what is the answer?
collecting various PSA and SGC cards

  • << <i>DO you truly believe that Bonds has not been taking steroids for the past few years? >>

    He said he did use
what cream and clear liquid that
his friend/trainer gave him, that he did not know
had steriods in it, but it turns out that
    they did.
And in the absence of other facts,
I will choose to believe him.

you will choose to believe otherwise, but remember,
It does not matter what I think
    or what You guys think...

they are NOT going to ban a guy from
    Baseball (bonds, sheffield or whoever)
    based solely on the possiblity

    BKAH,

    I'm not dense.

I just stating the facts as I know them to be and what may eventually be known by all. It won't be
new to me. I've always thought Bonds and others were juicing up their home run totals.

What you think as being dense is actually an indifferent attitude....

Basically, I could give two $hits what is going on with baseball. What's done is done and I can't change
a thing. The mess has been made so we must go on. Maybe if the Phillies can fire Ed Wade and somehow
get their own Mr. Potato Head I'll get a better attitude. But as long as the Phils continue to be average
and the other so called stars smear the game I'll just sit back in the 700 level and wait for something
    good to happen.

I'm not sure if anybody will be banned as a result of this. But the liars and cheaters will go down in baseball history as such. I don't forsee any astericks. Future fans will hold players in their proper esteem. Any hope of Bonds being viewed as the best ever is gonzo -he never was anyway. Ruth is and will continue to be.

  • << <i>BKAH,
    I'm not dense.
I just stating the facts as I know them to be >>

well you just did it again.

Showing yourself as being Dense (again)
by statements as facts that are actually NOT facts!
and THAT (again) is my point.

you are stating your OPINION that he is lying when
he says he did not know there were steriods in the
    products he used.
    or
you are stating your OPINION that you think he used
drugs to enhance his hr totals,

but since the only FACTS on this exist for now in what
    Bonds admitted Under Oath
(He said he did not know that the cream and clear liquid that
his friend/trainer gave him had steriods in them.)
then the to say he is a Liar
or that you "know" he knew about the cream/clear,
or that you "can tell by his big head"
or "see he got bigger over the years"

are ALL just speculation, and personal opinion...
    NOT FACTS
