Old Fa*t Needs advice on re-sizing pictures for uploading

I want to post some pictures here, but all of them are too large (over 40kb). How can I make them smaller so that I can post?

Most editors have a resize or resample function to make the pics smaller. 400 X 400 with moderate jpg compression will generally get in under the 50k limit.

If you don't have image editing software, Microsoft Paint will do the job. Load the image, then go to "Image" / "Stretch Skew" and enter the percentages in the boxes for horizontal and vertical. For example, if you want to reduce it in half, you'd put 50% in each box. Then click OK, then File/Save As and name it.

I use a graphics editor called Irfanview. Think of it as a poor man's Photoshop. It is very easy to download and install from www.irfanview.com.
