my friend, who has all kinds of connections and gets a lot of inside info, told me that Lloyd Carr will probably step down from Michigan within a few weeks for health reasons. his likely replacement? Oklahoma State's Les Miles.

Michigan boosters will be very happy. Michigan
has a proud and successful tradition.
You're talking about an awesome program and tradition
that Carr never handled to the class and performance that Schembechler did.
I've never requested the opinion of Michigan supporters on Carr, so I'd
be interested to hear what they feel about him.

Being a Blue fan, I think he is a good coach, a very good coach. Not a great one. He has had several teams that could have, and should have been in line for national championships, but he was never capable of putting their skills together to act as one unit. The coaches who can teach the kids to play as well as they can consistently on an every Saturday basis are the ones who are great.
Take this year for instance. How many games did they finally (keyword) get their heads together and start playing as one unit in the fourth quarter. If they would have played like that the whole game, I am fully confident in saying that they could have been the 3rd or 4th best team in the nation (behind USC, Auburn, Oklahoma maybe). We should have not lost to Notre Dame, and we choked on the thought of a slight chance of a national championship possibility in Columbus. The top three teams mentioned have individual stars, but I honestly don't think their key players are any better than Edwards, Jackson, and Hart. Henne needs experience. They just couldn't become one. And he couldn't recruit a kicker to save his soul.
Overall, I would give him a B+. Very Good, but not Great.
But I will go out on a limb, and say now, that if Henne can play a whole season like he did in 9 of the 11 games. Michigan will be in a title game within 3 years.
Go Blue!
