SGC96 Convert?

If PSA accepts the grading is it a PSA 9 or 10?

Comments

  • If submitted in the SGC holder the card will either be:

    1) Deemed "Evid Trim"

    or

    2) Crossed to a PSA 9

    or

    3) Crossed to something less than a PSA 9 or given the "MG" for not meeting your minimum grade.

    or

    4) Crossed to a PSA 10 (Highly doubtful).

  • The only 2 SGC 96's Ive ever tried to convert ended up as PSA 8's.

Both were Topps Giants and I cracked them before sending.

I doubt I will do that again.

I have cracked open two SGC96s and submitted to PSA in the past couple of months. One resulted in a PSA 7 and the other became a PSA 9.

I sent in , cracked out SGC cards from 1973 baseball a few months ago.....

    I am a little forgetfull, but believe they were 2 88s( 8) down to 7, one 86 ( 7.5) down to 7, one 92 ( 8.5) down to 8, and one 92( 8.5) up to psa 9.

I cracked out a BEAUTIFUL 79 Trammell that was a SGC96. I just got the results yesterday, it was an 8. Time to resubmit. image
Collecting all graded Alan Trammell graded cards as well as graded 1984 Topps, Donruss, and Fleer Detroit Tigers

It's been hit or miss for me, but doing your own grading of the card (regardless of the holder) increases your chances. I will say that I do better crossing SGC to PSA than I do with GAI ... and I don't think it's because SGC is a tougher grader. I think it's because PSA grades GAI very tough for, uh, business reasons.

I agree, for the best chances of a cross, but you have to be willing to burn your bridges. Depending on your plans for the card, sometimes you'd rather it stay in the GAI 8 or SGC 88 holder than possibly move to a PSA 7. So unless you're absolutely sure the raw card will get your grade or higher, it may be the safest thing to try to cross in the holder. If it fails, you're out the fee but you still have it holdered as an 8 and can sell it as such. I guess this is how "sliders" move around the market so much!

Me, if I want it for a set I gamble raw. If I want to sell it, I try it in the holder.
