1943 Copper US Penny

I have a 1943 copper penny. I now want to sell this penny. I need some advise. I live in a small town in Florida. I am of course willing to travel to sell the penny but I am concerned about going to a dealer that is not trustworthy that would just steal the penny ( take it an claim
that I never had such a coin). How does one go about selling a valuable coin and not get cheated?

Seriously, you do need to find a magnet to test if the coin MIGHT be the very valuable one you hope it is. If the magnet attracts your coin, then it is just a copper plated steel cent and is worth just one cent. If the magnet does NOT attract your coin, then other tests need to be done to make sure it is a valuable coin. Please do this test and come back here and report what you find. Others will be happy to help you through this with good advise. Good luck,
Steve

There are many dealers you can trust here.
Folks here have seen thousands of fakes in the past.
I really hope yours is real
?
I can't wait. We may all look like fools but it would be really cool.
Well, I'll tell ya what I thought. Again, I am ashamed to say I looked at the Pinatubo Bros newest listing yesterday (3944547383, the newest challange lot), and the nut(s) include a purported email from someone who claims to have been abused here, who advises them to lurk here or create an ID or something.
I also checked the past purchases of pennylane, and found that he/she/it bought numerous low grade cheap items from one seller in Florida, items which seemed to ring a bell re: the listings which became subjects of toning adventures.
I really was going to keep it to myself, it's gone on too long, but the alt id guess, and their new listing today (some hoard) says it is their last, and they have some very choice words for smoeone on their way out the door.

Get it certified. ANACS is your best bet -- they don't require being a dealer or joining a club or anything. Go to www.anacs.com to get the form to send it in for certification.
Uncertified, it's borderline worthless. Certified, it's worth thousands. No brainer for a coin like this.

I have THREE of them. (hahaha).
Are you aware that you could bring this coin to NGC in Sarasota ?
It shouldn't too far a drive from anywhere in Florida to get there.
Where in Florida do you live ?...(Naples, here ! )
Make sure that the 3 isn't a redo of a 5 or an 8. If its correct in shape and a magnet doesn't attach itself to your coin, it may very well be worth your while to make that trip to NGC.
Ist of all, post a picture to this Forum thread. We could save you alot of wasted driving time ( in case the coin is not the "real Mc Coy". )
GOOD LUCK !!!

I had left Jim my cell phone number on this thread to call me, and he did. Back and forth calling, and then he finally was able to send me a digital picture of his 1943 "copper" cent. The picture was actually great, but....
....the SECOND I looked at it, I knew it wasn't even CLOSE to being authentic. I will save him the embarressment of even posting the pic. It looked like a 1948 D that was attempted to become a 1943.
