My latest Grades from membership renewal

Renewed my 2 year membership at the Chicago show and just got back my results for the 10 cards submitted as part of the renewal. Here they are along with my predictions.

CERT # YEAR CARD CO. CARD # CARD NAME GRADE

1 90376000 1961 FLEER 215 DON MAYNARD N/A 9 (predicted a 9, came from a BVG 8.5 holder)

2 90376001 1961 FLEER 157 PAUL LOWE N/A 9 (predicted a 9, came from a BVG 8.5 holder)

3 90376002 1959 TOPPS 426 JERRY STALEY N/A 8 (predicted a 9)

4 90376003 1961 TOPPS 244 CHICO CARDENAS N/A 8 (predicted a 9)

5 90376004 1961 TOPPS 314 BOB MILLER N/A 9 (predicted a 9)

6 90376005 1961 TOPPS 340 VIC WERTZ N/A 8 (predicted an 9)

7 90376006 1965 TOPPS 480 JOEL HORLEN N/A Not Holdered, Evidence of Trimming
(predicted a 9, broke this out of a PSA 8
holder because it looked so good, obviously
PSA thought it was too good to be true.

8 90376007 1970 TOPPS 458 PETE ROSE N/A 7 (predicted an 8)

9 90376008 1970 TOPPS 630 ERNIE BANKS N/A 8 (predicted an 8)

10 90376009 1960 FLEER 8 ROGER BRESNAHAN N/A 9 (predicted a 9)

Overall, I'm pleased. The two 1961 Fleer football cards were cracked from BVG 8.5 holders with subgrades of 9, 9, 9.5 and 8s for surface. I missed on a few 59-61's that looked really nice.

I have had pretty good luck cracking my ONE BVG (LOL) card to PSA - just as you did. BVG actually seems to grade the vintage pretty darn tough (maybe "modern" graders trying to apply the same standards to vintage?)

The '65 Horlen stinks (resubmit $5)?....but there always seems to be one or 2 head-scratchers.

    Good vintage stuff...nice job

Yeah Dallas...if I had to do it over again I would have saved the 65 Horlan for a later submission special rate and submitted an older vintage card instead. I was so sure it would get a 9 I just added it to the group. As for BVG, they are so conservative with their "surface" grades that I believe they are unrealistic. When I see a BVG card with 9-9.5 subscores for centering, corners, and edges, but 8-8.5 for surface I believe it to be a good candidate for a PSA 9.
