Millers Mint

Has anyone on the board had any dealings with Millers Mint in New York? They have a couple of coins I am interested in, but most of their inventory is raw.

If that is the place I am thinking of, they always have about 4 tables worth of cases full of raw coins labelled in 2 by 2's. I bought a nice raw 1921 quarter from them one time for a friend. They were VERY easy to deal with and even let me take it across the bourse to ANACS without a thought before buying!
  • My experience with MM has been that I have found some nice coins correctly graded and some that were not. If you are not viewing the coins in person, you should place your order by telephone and ask the representative to describe the coins in detail. Be aware that many coins will have been cleaned.

In my opinion a dealer who sells problem free expensive coins not slabbed by a major TPG, leaves big money on the table and this is something a major dealer seldom does. There are exceptions of course. Some early copper dealers and some bust coin dealers do so because their clients prefer coins unslapped. On the other hand they also sell copper and bust coins that would be body bagged by PCGS and NGC.

Bottom line is if one plans to purchase a raw expensive coin, view it in person or have someone view it for you, or know the dealer. If you cannot do any of the previous proceed with extreme caution. Be sure you can return the coin if it is not to your satisfaction if it was not purchased in person.

Thanks for your imput. I'm looking at a 1798 Large cent. Think I'll wait until I can find one already in a slab.
