And the winner of the idiots choice of selling methods on ebay tonight

is:

I think I will take 4 sets today.

for the auction that reads as follows for a SEALED Proof Set:

This is an original unopened 1964 U.S. Proof set in the manila Mint Sealed envelope. This set could contain some HIGH GRADE GEM CAMEO PROOF COINS that you could have certified and sell for much, much more then you buy this for!! You will be the first person to ever look at these coins and may find yourself a real treasure!! Since people are opening these sets everyday, these unopened sets are becoming more scarce!!!
There is NO RESERVE for this item so be confident in knowing that the highest bidder will run away with this great collector’s item.

I have taken a photo of this item with the best of my ability. This item has been graded by a collector with over 30 years of experience so I know you will be pleased!!

So did the collector grade the idiot selling the coins, the camera, the manila envelope or the coins he removed from another sealed set and put into a new envelope or the actual coins that were slabbed?

I am just a little bit confused.
This is a very dumb ass thread. - Laura Sperber - Tuesday January 09, 2007 11:16 AM image

Hell, I don't need to exercise.....I get enough just pushing my luck.

  • Roughly 40% of the 1960-64 proof sets listed are allegedly "sealed" or "unopened". I suspect the number of sets that are truly never opened is in the 5-10% range.

This game of selling re-sealed sets (or sealed in new enveloped from Vernon Coin) appears to be one of the biggest coin rackets on Ebay. image
  • It's just boilerplate that he has in his auction template. You'll find the same paragraph in all of his auctions for non-slabbed material. He just fogot to delete it when he did this auction.
  • i can't understand how so many of the "hype" sellers still exist ! grab bags of "unsearched" coins, unsearched coins by the pound, and in the same seller's other auctions there is stuff like 1914 d lincolns and 41/2 mercury dimes, now only an idiot would believe that this seller isn't looking through the coins, on top of that they use all the numismatic nomenclature, then the buyers leave negative feedback when the spend $29.99 for 10 wheat pennies and a dateless buff nickel !!! do they actually expect they will receive $20 gold pieces and key date coins ? "something for nothing" has been around forever and unfortunately always will be
