peace dollar planchet differences

Hi. I have a couple of 1922 peace dollars from a granpa's collection...yada, yada, yada.
My question is: they have a weight difference, and the size of the planchets are obviously considerably different, perhaps 15% or more. Is the heavy one possibly a circulated proof from that year, or was there simply not standardized planchet sizes?

Counterfeits or broadstruck coins possibly. I'm not aware of any weight differences with 1922 proof coins.

Mint tolerances have always been excellent and the proof/biz planchets are the same specifications. Either these are alterations or more likely counterfeits. If they're contemporary counterfeits, it may have some added intrigue. How do the designs compare against real peace dollars?
