Coins in a game machine ???

Tagging along with the wife today at the mall. There are no coin shops there. So I'm just wondering around and there hangs about a dozen circulated coins in 2x2's in my face in some kind of prize winning machine. Didn't look for details on how to play the darn thing, 50 cents down the drain, I figure. What I couldn't get over was what was inside. Looked like a real nice AU 1952 Franklin, a VF 1927 Standing Liberty Quarter, and I could see the reverse of a seated half dime that would probably be Fine or better, and some other circulated silver. Anyone ever seen such a thing as this and would you have popped the 50 cents in and took the chance ?

I have and the coins were real- but I dropped 2 bucks in it- did ya give it a shot anyway?

No, I didn't play the game. It was something about stopping on the red light and if it did your prize would be dropped out. There were a lot of other prizes to win besides the coins. I figure with my luck, I'm better off with my fifty cents in my pocket.

The 2x2s are probably glued in. I've seen a few of those types of things. No one wins them.

I don't know how grey an area it is, but if they are giving out money, it's probably gambling by definition. Obsolete coins might be ok. But if there is modern currency, it's probably not legal.
