Price variations between Spink and Krause on my new GB Proof Set

Just picked this 1950 Proof Set, Great Britain.



Krause has the set listed at $75.00 USD. Spink does not have the "set" listed ... only the individual coin prices. They add up to £155 GBP. Which one would you think is closer to reality?

BTW, I paid $60.00 USD for it. Some of the coins have toned nicely, too.

How's this for a theory:

Spink is close to what you would get for FDC coins if sold in the UK and Krause is close to what you could expect in the USA.

Other members (Wybirt in particular) will have more insight but it looks like Spink is being generous as it is with the more medern sets.

The sets are usually listed at the end of each monarch in Spinks. Look there. It's probably around £100. $75 is way too low - in any country.

All of the pre-decimal proof sets can be broken to make a significant profit.

It is there. Right on the price, too, at £100.

No wonder I missed it ... There's only four proof sets listed for George VI. I just missed it 'cause it's so small

My first Spink ... what can I say except I'll get used to it.

Fantastic set and price. I paid $150 for mine.

1950 sets can still be had in the US for cheap.

They will fetch about $80-$150 on ebay.
