Question for anyone who saw the movie "National Treasure"

In the National Treasure movie the character by Nicholas Cage gave his love interest (woman who worked at the National Archives played by Diane Kruger) a metal looking coin to complete here collection. I think I remember hearing that this was a campaign button from the eighteenth century.

Are these buttons or coins? Also are those things valuable?

I believe they were different campaign buttons for George Washington's presidential race. Beyond that I do not know if they are fictional or real.

I don't know a lot about them either, but they are buttons or Medals and I believe they had to do with the different battle campaings George Washinton took part in. So if a person took part in that particular campaign they were awared the medal for bravery and outstanding service. I am speculating on a lot of this, but I don't believe they had anything to do with his election to President.

I would say they would be worth a substantial amount of money now days, but would not be characterized as coins. Hopefully someone more knowledgable than my self can come along with some actual facts on this topic.

I haven't seen the movie, but metal detectorists sometimes find campaign buttons from the very earliest presidential races. They sometimes had a very small motto or significant design. To my untrained eye, they look like a typical 18th century button. They are very valuable in any condition.
