Just had a chance to add this one to the site this evening. really nice doubled die, listed in the CPG...

    Got that one up quick C.D. Nice looking coin and as usual - great pics. Now I have even more sets to search thru.

    Nice pix, CD. Please pardon the ignorance of someone who doesn't check for DDO/DDR varieities, but what distinguishes this from machine doubling? Doubling in the center of the design?

    It's actually the type of doubling, not the location. Diagnostics that are visible to the somewhat practiced eye make distinguishing the difference rather easy. With a little knowledge and practice it isn't hard at all.

  • To expand a little. Machine doubling is unique to each coin. All are not identical. Doubled dies are just that, the die has more then one impression so all coins struck from that die are identical.
