Anyone using 'MyCollection' Coin Management Software from Heritage?

ajiaajia Posts: 5,403 ✭✭✭
Is anyone using this software from Heritage Galleries?
It seems like a good idea, except I get the feeling 'big brother' is keeping tabs of your collection, & what you buy & for how much!image

Anybody else get the email, & what do you think?image

I absolutely love it. Printable . . I can customize and then print and take to shows (not being much of an "ebay-er" . . . I prefer to see my coins before I buy them). Current basic values are available at the click of a mouse . . . you also have a remotely stored inventory of your collection in the case of an emergency.

Yes . . I believe they can access at Heritage, but I don't mind.

It's proven to be a nice tool for me.
Yes, I realize they can access it, but who cares?
I use it in conjunction with my registry sets. Makes for a nice printable inventory, w/history, and kinda, current value, as well.

I just got that email too!image

I use CoinManage 2004...but any coins that I buy from Heritage they automatically add....so I leave it there to have detailed record of only my Heritage purchases.

Best program they offer I think.
  • Do you mean the online myCollection? Or is there a version you can download?

I use the online database and like it.

I use my own spreadsheet and I also use the Heritage site. I think they look at what's input on the site because I get calls all the time to see if I am ready to sell my collection.

    Dave,

I do not think there is a version you can download, but they state you can download (copy/paste?) the information to an Excel spreadsheet.

I like it too. So what if they see your goodies...maybe they have some moon money they want to send your way.

    Its in the registry too!!

I get lots of snailmail from Heritage, but rarely answer phone calls unless I know the caller. So if they are calling I sure don't know it. I wonder how realistic/current the want list appearance numbers are.

Its my back up system. Use it quite a bit. I also agree, its one of the best features that they offer.

I don't like it at all. I put some "test" coins in there and then deleted them. This supposedly removes them from their system, however, more than a year later the coins are still there if you simply ask them to rebuild your collection. I do not recall the actual keystrokes to do it, but if they can reconstitute what you had previously deleted, then they are keeping permanent records of what you have in there.

  • I use it and I like it quite a bit. Its a nice way to keep track of the current values as at least one source sees it.

I just went back to Heritage to see if I could undelete coins I had previously deleted and it can still be done. A collection that I listed in 2000 and then subsequently deleted (with the popup from Heritage that states that a deletion cannot be undone) was just brought back up online.

    1) Log into your Heritage account
    2) Go under My Heritage
    3) Go under My Collection
    4) Scroll the lefthand frame down to see the options "Undelete Collections" and "Undelete Items"
    5) Choose one of these options

What do you see? You will see all the coins you thought were deleted from the Heritage database. Guess what? Heritage keeps a permanent record of everything you list on their site. Not very nice.image

I use the My Collection software, too. I like it for reasons given above and for more, vidsee below.

It gives combined data for NGC and PCGS pops and also I really like the column that shows their Want List matches. Makes me feel better to know how many other collectors in the their want list program are in need of coins I own. I realize that the numbers are likely inflated and include people that are just setting flags to catch coins for sale to look at and and not necessarily buy. Nevertheless, it is still a very useful feature to the software.

Heritage benefits by knowing what you have in your set, but sometimes I have listed coins I don't have just to see what kind of numbers show up, particularly for the want list feature. No one said you had to own the coins to list them in the My Collection.

I've been using it for several years. While not the best program out there, it is free and it has some nice features.

I use my own system. Its none of their business what's in my collection (and I do believe they are looking).
