Coin Club Newsletter...

Sometimes people create something so cool they have to share it with others. Back in May I was voted into being a board member of the local coin club in the first meeting I ever attended there. A month later I became the newsletter editor because first I volunteered for the job, but also because the newsletter we did have was rather bland and the guy doing it wanted out of the job (after a number of years of doing it monthly).

Our club is the biggest in this area with around 140 members. We have one meeting per month and two coin shows per year. We have around 65 active members who show up to the meetings monthly, then we have a number of other members scattered around the state and region who are members just for the communication (mainly the newsletter).

I have turned our most recent edition (bi-monthly this time because of complications) into a PDF file for viewing on the web. I played around with some new ways of handling Adobe InDesign (print publication software) and really like the outcome. Be forewarned that the file is over 1Mb, but the newsletter is 16 pages long! Take a look and comment if you wish.

Nov-Dec OCC newsletter (1.2Mb)

edited: resampled images so the filesize would be smaller.

  • Thanks for sharing your local club's newsletter. I'm always on the lookout for new ideas for our club to help it get out of its rut. While we have a fairly good number of members who regularly attend, it seems it's always the same, old people giving presentations and doing the footwork for the club. We don't have a regular newsletter and the once in a while that something is sent out, it's usually a hastily prepared one-page mailing to remind members of upcoming meetings and events. I think this is one area we could improve upon and seeing what your club has done is an inspiration.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

That is one super newsletter. I hope you will share your experiences about your trip to Washington with us. I'm looking forward to it.

Wow, that is a massive newsletter. How did you find the time to make it? I was in the large Central Florida coin club. We had a good monthly newsletter but it was never that long.

This newsletter is roughly the same size as the rest - the cover is printed on card stock, and the three inside leafs are printed on regular bond paper. The size of the finished product, when folded, is half letter size. It mails for 37 cents. It is saddle stapled and held together at the open end by one of those 20mm Avery white circle labels. Works great!

This particular issue is an example of what happens when very few people bother to submit anything to the newsletter, and Chuck ends up writing almost the whole thing. Frank writes a nice article every month and mails it in, but other than that participation in its creation is very limited.

I will be doing the January newsletter in a couple of weeks - if you're interested in receiving a hard copy to show to your club, send me a PM.
