Andy Rooney on 60 Minutes: "If the US Mint would ever stop making those Pennies"

Andy Rooney showed us the Penny Arcade where he redeemed all of his "pennies."

He never called them cents. On the other hand, I was expecting him to get into the cent versus penny debate. He never did.

But it was a pleasant report, although not one of his better ones.

Andy Rooney is the last reporter /commentator that appears weekly on CBS TV show "60 Minutes."

Why do or should you care what he says? He happens to be humorous and even if you do not always agree with him you should respect that at his age of 85 plus years of age, you would want to hope you (or I) could do half as well as he is still doing!

    Some of Andy's great one-liners:

"Computers make it easier to do a lot of things, but most of the things they make it easier to do don't need to be done. "

"Computers make it easier to do a lot of things, but most of the things they make it easier to do don't need to be done. "

"Making duplicate copies and computer printouts of things no one wanted even one of in the first place is giving America a new sense of purpose."

"We've sent a man to the moon, and that's 290,000 miles away. The center of the Earth is only 4,000 miles away. You could drive that in a week, but for some reason nobody's ever done it. "

"The 50-50-90 rule: Anytime you have a 50-50 chance of getting something right, there's a 90% probability you'll get it wrong."

  • Andy Rooney is an overpaid idiot IMO. I can't believe this joker takes coffee cans full of change to his bank for redemption, the guy pulls down six-figures for his weekly moronic forays about nothing.

Heck, I prefer his style of saying nothing than Dan Rather of saying blather. I wished my father could do half of what he does at age 85 going on 86. Ever wonder why Andy Rooney is still going strong while Dan Rather is not goping strong? Because the viewer of America like "moronic forays about nothing."

At least it is an escape from reality.

Also, Andy Rooney learned from his mistake of saying too much in public.

JLW, you just don't get it. Have you ever read any of his books? WHile sometimes serious, he's a smart, funny guy with a very dry sense of humor. That's how his antics and subjects need to be viewed.
  • I don't get a chance to hear his 60 minutes commentaries but I do read his columns and I find that his "moronic forays about nothing" are often quite insightful. I don't always agree with him. But he does get me thinking along new lines sometimes. He has a good "understanding" on life that comes from age and experience.
  • Yep ... he complained about Coinstar being a rip, but did you catch the numbers when he talked about how much changed was turned in and how much he got for it? Six silver dollars (or so he said), he received $6. Too funny.
