Has anyone here read the new Redbook on $20 Gold coins?

I know that some of the features of the Morgan Redbook were somewhat unreliable. How does the new book hold up? I'm anticipating the type book with bated breath!

It is good, comprehensive, not great. On an issue-by-issue basis, Doug Winter's books do a better job of tackling the nuances of the $20 Liberties. The Redbook is strong in data (pop reports, pricing, etc.) As for the Saints, there are no recent references (I think you have to go back to the Akers books from the 1970's), so this is the only and best available.

The book also contains lots of articles, essays, and interesting historical and numismatic features. If you have even a passing interest in $20's, it is a good reference book to have. For under $20 in price, it is a no-brainer and a good value.

I haven't read the Winter books on double eagles, but I've got a copy of Bowers' book and have skimmed through it. I think it's a nice general reference, with some very good commentary on what happened to double eagles in the 19th century, how many went to Europe (and have been coming back since the '70s), etc. I think it's well worth the money.

Also, in the book, Bowers says that he plans on an expanded edition, with much more detail for "numismatists and researchers".

    I can't wait!
