There are type IIIs mintmarks which are shown in Marty pics, but not yet recognized by any grading service. You can clearly see the difference between true Type Is and Type IIs. It's the Type IIIs that I think are the hardest to recognize. While they appear to have the bulbous serifs normally found on IIs, the clarity of the mintmark is somewhat lacking as it is in all of the Type Is. I wouldn't be surprised if a TPG went either way with type IIIs. Though they should be given their own designation.
