Light revisited

Hi, Everybody -

I went to the bank this morning to put some coins in the safe deposit box. The vault was lit with fluorescent lights. I was surprised at how different my coins looked under those lights (as opposed to viewing them under a tungsten bulb). It seemed as though every little flaw was magnified. The toning even looked different. White coins didn't look as clean as they did under different lighting. Anyway, that just surprised me.

When you buy raw coins, are you careful to view them under the right kind of lights? Which type of light do you prefer for viewing coins? What type do they have at coin shows?

No, it's hard to find a good light source when buying. I just bought a jfk which I thought would be cam for sure under the fluorescents. But I was surprised when I got it home - dcam. Usually it goes the other way for me.

You have to be careful with lighting and don't evaluate coins under florescent
lighting. This will make most SMS coins appear to be frosted and hides small
imperfections while high lighting major ones. Most shops have a few lights a-
round. If all else fails there's always a window, but sunlight affects how you
    see a coin also.

Been trying to find the right light for years. Thinking the best thing to do is turn the lights off and dream about that perfect coin.
