Blue Ribbon Question...

Does it remove toning? I have always wondered it, but have never gotten enough courage to try it. I know it works great with dirt and soil, but Ill be ticked if it takes off the color. Anyone ever try it?

It will alter/change the color of coins. If you have surface color you don't want to change, best not to use it.

If you'll state what it is that you want to do to the coin (why it needs cleaning) I'll recommend something that will work better, if it warrants.

I was just curious, I have this dime, with nice toning but its pretty dirty for some reason. Its not valuable at all, I just want to see the colors....

Depending on what "dirty" means, pure mineral oil and a soak for a few days might take care of it. I don't know of mineral oil to change anything (including color) on the metal itself.

You might also consider testing some Goo-Gone on a similar coin before using it on the dime. I have used it on cents and it doesn't change the color of copper, which is one of the easiest metals to ruin.
