Dearborn MI show report!

Sorry no pictures, didn't bring the Camera... Out of all the dealers Jade was the only board members there, then there were a couple of local dealers I know. I went on a proof set buying spree. I bought well over 200 sets (most 1968-1972), picked up a sealed 2 pack of 1964 proof sets, yes Russ they are still in the SEALED outer envelope. Also picked up 9 Cook Islands weenie proof sets!!! And I picked up a 1921 Peace Dollar in (I figure) 03 or 02, but for $10 I had to get it! I looked for Woody but he was no where to be found. It was very brisk, there were a ton of people brousing, I sure Dennis can fill everyone in on how sales were going... Now, after getting up a 3AM to get here.. Nap Time!!
It is not exactly cheating, I prefer to consider it creative problem solving!!!

  • No, just to have a sample slab that the weenie coin king himself held is a honor.

The only other sample slabs I saw (besides the NGC FL) were a few collectors club eagles and a CameoCC quarter.

Other than that, I did pick up a 2002 ANACS Central States sample.

It was surprising to see NGC there. It sounds like it was a last minute decision. But it was nice to pick up a pop report at no charge.image

  • I just got back from there a couple hours ago.
I met Dennis and had him look at a couple of coins I'd taken there for opinions.
The 1922 plain Lincoln I had, he attributed as the die 1 varietyimage, and an 1877-S quarter he thought AU cleaned, ANACS said cleaned, Net MS63. I didn't want it slabbed, so I didn't submit it. I just wanted someones elses opinion on grade, so I'm satisfied.
It's such a nice coin, I paid a little more for it than I normally would have, and then wondered if I made a mistake. I didn't.

You guys didn't tell me that you were going. I got there at 10am and left around 12:30pm.
Wouldn't have liked to have stayed longer but I had to pick up my kids.

    Maybe I'll go back tomorrow.

I too had to wait a long time for some dealer to return to his table (I think it was table 126).
He had some nice Walkers though. Can't afford the 1918-S. image

Wish I would've know that NGC was there. I would have brought some stuff.

I was there for about 6 hours today - took that much time to make two laps. Didn't see Marty - he must have been ahead of me scooping up the proof sets. I managed to pick up a number of raw proof sets, a nice raw 60 dcam quarter, and a nice matched PCGS BTW commem set with eye appealing green, gold, and red toning.

I was there mainly to sell and I was able to sell a number of cameo pieces at strong prices. I few dealers may be stocking up for Baltimore and the FUN show.

Met Jade Coin today - didn't see any other board members that I knew.

Spent some time looking at the exhibits - well worth the time - I learned alot about areas I am not familiar with. Some very professionally done exhibits were on display.

Noticed that the MSNS has signed a long term agreement with the Hyatt-Dearborn. Looks like both the spring and fall shows will be there thru 2007.

I also wish I knew NGC would be there - I would have liked to show them a few pieces. ANACS is always there and very helpful - I appreciate the support they give to the show.

Overall a great day - very busy from 10am to 2pm, then it calmed down a bit.

It must be a busy show. If not, Dennis would already have uploaded his pictures and posted a report. image

I was there for most of the day, look at almost every table and didn't really find anything that made me spend my money but, then tomorrow may have been different.

One important note I noticed a number of raw mercury dimes that were marked as unc and are au be careful!

Most raw morgans were graded better.
some nice IHC were there if you know your IHC you can bick up a bargin.

Also I didn't know that NGC was going to be there?

With over 1,000 new coins to go through this weekend, Marty might be too distracted/tired for ebay and TT.

Might be a good weekend for me and the other little collectors.image

Note to 1968-1972 high end coin collectors:

With Marty sending over 1,000 new coins to NGC/PCGS next week, you may want to list yours on ebay and TT THIS week. image

Marty, I'm working on a 1921 Peace $1 grading set from Poor-1 to MS66....and I'd be very interested in your buy at Michign if you have any interest in selling...I coud use a coin that could grade FR02 or AG03 - if you have any interest in parting with it.

    thanks, craig
