2 Pfennig No Date Error or Waffle?

Can anyone tell me what happened to this? Could it be an error, or was it waffled by the mint? Or what, looks like a wedge thin up to where it beging then up to thickness where it was struck? Reminds me of when i used to put pennies on the railroad tracks and let the train flatten them out. image

  • Not an error, and what makes you think it happened at the mint?
  • This could actually be a mint error. I wouldn't know how this would happen, but I have seen coins with similar damages categorized as mint errors.

My guess is train track damage. But it would have had to have been put on the edge of the tracks to not be fully flattened across the coin.

  • I believe it's an error, I've seen this type thing before as well. looks like it was caught between rollers. Think it would be kind of hard to have a train only flatten the one part.image

Train tracks have a curve on the top,,if that shows no sign of curve you can rule out train. A Roller press is a possability, maybe someone in a foundry played with it.

No matter what, if it happened after it was struck, it can no longer be considered a mint error. But I'd like to know what's going on with that coin.
