Anyone here putting together any sets in albums?

I've got a BU set of Roosies, Washingtons, Mercs, and Jeffs coming along. Didn't really mean to start. But I just like nice coins of any series, especially ones that are cool looking and relatively inexpensive. After a while you have the foundation for a set. Just happens. Lots a fun.

What about you?

Collecting since 1976.

I'm workin' on a Dansco set of Peace Dollars from PCGS and NGC crackouts image Got 8 of 'em so far.
  • I've been using these "leather" briefcase / binder things from Wal-mart........ Like $20 a piece.............. they have handles like a portfolio, and a zipper that closes around the whole thing to keep strays from escaping........ Inside is a three ring binder and a legal type pad for notes etc........ I use 2 X 2 pages and standard 2 X 2's.......... after almost 40 years of collecting, this is the best thing I've found / used !

I'm working on VF/XF sets of Mercuries and Walkers in Dansco albums, plus I've got almost all of the first Morgan (1878-1890) Dansco album full in XFish (before I lost interest in Morgans, that is).

I have a Dansco set of Barber halves. It is completed and for me, much better to look at with all the holes filled.

Here is page 4 and the other pages are linked if you are bored to tears and feel like looking.Dansco Pages

  • I have a complete set Roosies, jeffersons, and Jfk's in albums. My Washington set is also complete, but the tougher dates in the 30's and 40's I have in pcgs plastic and kept in intercept boxes. My works in progress are lincolns and Dansco US type. When those are done I think I will just concentrate on getting one or two really nice coins per year.

No wonder I can't find a nice looking XF-AU Barber Half!! ARCO has them all!

    Nice looking set.

  • Flying Eagles, Indians Unc & Proofs, Lincolns, Buffs, Jeffs, Mercs, Roosies, SLQs, Washington, Frankies and Morgan & Peace - all Uncs, some in old Wayte Raymonds, Some Library of Coin Albums and Some in Whitman Albums, the ones with the slides in them. Some were put in the albums in the early 50's (Lincolns, Buffs, Jeffs, Mercs, Roosies & Washington Quarters - couldn't afford to put anything more than a quarter in an album because my allowance was only 25 cents/week!

Thanks for posting that Barber Half set Arco.....very niceimage

That's the next set I plan on pursuing, since I've recently finished my Morgan dollar set, and seem to have run into a brick wall concerning the remaining IHC's I needimage

OK, Tyler, you asked for it. I just tossed my Barber Dime album into the old scanner. This set is not nearly as nicely matched as your Barber Half set (of which I dream frequently). But here 'tis warts and all. The extra holes have a couple of 1905-O micro-Os and other varieties.(Reverse scans available through email upon PM request).

Looks great CCEX! No set is perfect, and you should be very proud to have put together such a nice, complete set. Half of the fun is upgrading to "perfect" the set, which never really can happen.
I especially like the 96-S (my favorite Barber dime date) and the 1909-O...the 1903-s is very snazzy also. The first coin I would "upgrade" is that horrendous 1898. It looks all out of place with that dripping luster and high end AU detail. No, that coin needs to go, now let me get you my address so you can dispose of it as fast as possible and save yourself any more embarrassment. image

I put together a complete set of Roosies from 46-64 about 25 years ago.
They were all hand picked out of UNC rolls.
Now they are all beautiful toned Roosies image

Baley has some awesome sets in albums. Maybe he'll see this thread and post a few pictures.

All my sets are in albums.

My Dansco 7070 is all cracked out. Other sets, I just put a little piece of paper with the grade and service in the hole as a place marker. For example:

I have a number of collections in albums. The one I am working on nowis a mercury dime which I upgraded for years but still need upgrades. I also have a mercury dime registry set and working on it also. Not in albums but in capital plastic holders are Lincoln cents 1909-1933 1934-1958 completed.
See collecting can still be fun image

  • Hi,

Two Dansco Type sets- one completed one about 75% (completed set finished last December after Baley posted his set - took 14 years)
Morgan date set in Dansco - need four coins
Classic Commems in Dansco - done but for the Lafayette

After seeing Arco's Barber Half set I guess I will start one of those.

    Happy Thanksgiving to all.

    Regards,
    -Brian
