I am stunned by the new beckett

I used to say "wow the cards from 1948-2001 take up such a small amount of the publication, while the last 3 years cover just as many pages.(7or 8)" I noticed that the new issue has just 2 pages encompassing all cards from 1909-1986!!! There are also no more listings for commons. Do they do a once a year publication which have those listings? I was so upset, I became phyically ill, what has the hobby become? Where can I price some older commons? Of course, BGS grades are the highest priced, so my modern bulk should go to them??? I can't say how unimpressed I was with their new issue. However, I do like the hot list, and also the list of most graded cards for the month. I think PSA should do something similar so we can see what is being submitted.

  • I think what's happening is also the consensus taken from card shops and dealers.
Beckett wants you to start buying the "big book". That's the fatter version of the regular
beckett that comes out quarterly for $10 (9.99).

Don't they still publish a 'Beckett Vintage' on a monthly basis? Anyway, the guide is pretty much worthless. The prices haven't changed for vintage in years but I'm certain the market has changed over the years.

They stopped publishing Beckett Vintage earlier this year. The thing I like least about the new layout is they removed set prices.

No such details will spoil my plans...

That and they no longer list prices for commons really chapped my A$$!!
  • They started trending this way for several years, this is the next step. A few people with get upset, but most will just move on and people will continue to buy the mag. As for me, when my subscription ran out last year I did not renew it.

I am looking for Nolan Ryan cards, esp. OPC and rare oddball issues, graded or not. Also I need quite a few 1956 Topps, PSA 6 or higher

    Current Sets in Progress:
1956 Topps Master Set PSA 6 or better
    1978 Topps PSA 9 or 10
    1981 Donruss Golf PSA 9 or 10
    1989 Upper Deck PSA 9 or 10
    Nolan Ryan Master Set
    Pete Rose Master Set

I would recommend trying out their online price guide and see if it meets your needs. I think it is less than $5 per month per sport. I believe it has the ability to export into spreadsheets.
    Enjoy your collection!
