Which coins do YOU feel are under-extended or under-priced, based upon their current infrequency of

Ok, this is the opposite direction of Mark Feld's post, but what coins do you think are under-priced for their frequency, or lack there of, of appearance?

My personal choice, is that I feel that 1802 Half-Dimes are underpriced... 1802 Half-Dimes have been offerent in auctions something around 200 times in the past 120 years. I think that the pieces are underpriced. There are estimated to be only 30-40 left in existance, and maybe a dozen of those are grade VF or better. A beat-up FR2 Net PO1 was auctioned several years ago, and realized a price of around $10,000. An NGC50, sold this year, for $60,000. I just would think that it would sell for more than that, especially with it's rarity and lack of appearances at auction.

I suppose you could say the same of 1796-97 halves, too, or Higley coppers. Problem with something that rarified is it's not a simple a task to extrapolate market movements. Infrequency of sales, possible private transactions, etc.

How about 1848 CAL quarter eagles? Have many of these seen the light of day in the past few years?

Yeah... and even with the 1802 Half-Dimes... (That I know of, I'm in the process of researching appearances since 1998) only 2 different ones have been sold in at least the past 6 years. Though, one of those has appeared at least 3 times at auction...

  • this really does not fit this thread but I know gman will like this

I got to examine the 1796 half dime Likerty in PCGS ms64 today. not a coin that comes around very often. Yep the pop one in the pop report. image
  • as everyone knows,i have a 1957 proof registry set in NGC holders at this point.

The Linky in 68 CAM has a pop of 18 total between PCGS and NGC.

How many of those are Crackouts ?

    10-20 % ?

    1.8 to 3.6 coins ?

    True Pop of 14-16 ?

Might be modern crap but its wayy undervalued !

coins in super high grades are over-extended, coins in higher circ grades are not.

i mean, which category swamps every auction catalog you see???
