HOw bout this: what are the closest cert numbers you've got that you didn't submit yourself?

In the theme of the other thread.

If I told you, you would think I have a little problem. My list is at work, but it reads something like:

    164796-001,002,004,007,012, 013,014
    164798-004,005,008,009
    164799-001,002,003,005,006,009,011,014,017,021

And these are only the first three certs.

This is quite a coincidence, but these are all 1964 Kennedys. Some of these are "regular", some are accented hair and the range of grades include proof 67, 68 & 69, brilliants, cameos and ultracameos. While I like to think I collect the coins first and then the plastic, if I see a '64 PR69 Cam and the cert is 164798-002; I gotta have it.
The medical authorities are baffled by my condition; Russ and Marty are aware of my disease.

  • I have a bunch of sequential certs, but they were all from the same dealer.

I picked up three full band Roosies from teletrade with consecutive number.

I've bought lots of sets/bulk deals that had sequential numbers.

  • I have a few with similar cert numbers, all bought months apart ...
    5666467, 5666470, 5666471
    3602496, 3602499
    5658944, 5658949, 5658953

Makes me wonder whos collections I'm reassembling.

I've got 4 that are 1 number higher than another, 3 that are 2 numbers higher, and 8 that are 3 numbers higher. Most were purchased together from the same source, or are in the same series. The most surprising are 2 1961-D quarters in MS66 that were purchased a year and a half apart from different dealers, #'s 7823145 and 7823146.

I was just looking at a coin on a dealer website and noticed that the cert was no more than 140 off from the start number of one of my own recent submissions. Anyone else have that combo...close numbers between a coin you sent in and one you didn't? I didn't buy the second coin in question in my example...plus I've already sold the others.

There was at least one type of PCGS sample slab where multiples were made with the same number. So, suppose one could actually have two with the same number. I'm sure Cameron could provide more details.

  • Years ago I bought this 53-P Franklin at a show in Denver:

    53 Franklin

Then, about two years later I picked up this Washington Quarter off ebay:

    53 Quarter

My first thought upon receiving the Quarter was that it looked very similar to the Half, and when I looked at them together I noticed the (then NGC) serial numbers were just a few digits apart. I thought it was pretty cool that two apparant brothers were reunited and marveled at the likelihood of such an occurrence.
