I put in the pic of "Mandalay" since it has Lyle Talbot who people may remember from the Adventures of Ozzie and Harriet as Joe Randolph and on Leave it to Beaver as Chuck Dennison.
These things are great! What about that Jimmy Durante pic and a very young Jackie Cooper in "Treasure
Island"
Makes me feel old sometimes when I look at all those oldies... image

Great nostalgia Mike - thankfully, I wasn't around when those movies came out (as I know you weren't either), so, somewhere, somebody is older than either of us!

Jackie Cooper was almost into his adult role stage by the time Treasure Island was made - Coop was the "kid" in the old silent "The Tramp" with Chuck Chaplin (as we call him here in Hollywood).image

BTW - that set looks like it is in traditionally respectable British condition. Congrats on the set. Who else is in it?

  • Mike,

The Gallaher sets are the favorite sets of my movie star collection. I just love the "painted" scenes or portraits (depending on the set).

There is a variation in the Shots set. Card #14 with Colbert as Cleopatra has two different backs. One lists the co-star as Warren Williams playing Caesar, the other lists Henry Wilcoxen as Marc Antony. Im not sure one is more rare than the other as Ive seen both many times.

    Great post!!

The website where I got some info lists the #14 variations but doesn't say anything about scarcity of each - I have the Warren William as Caesar variation.
    Thanx!

  • For those of you who have any interest in the Gallaher sets, here is a scan of the type of 1930's cigarette pack in which they were included.

The size of the package is the same as the size of the card. So the cigarettes that were included within, were of the smaller variety.

I really like the "painted" quality of all of the Gallaher sets. And they all have interesting write ups on the back.
