Silver Quarters find from 62' 63' 64' ???

Hello, Coin Forum. I'm from the Sports side and needed to ask ya'll a question. Last night while standing in line at the corner convient store, a man two people in front of me was buying something and dropped a quarter, well I heard the sound it made and knew it was silver.
When it was my turn, I asked the guy behind the counter for the quarter, he gave it to me and the other $2.75 in silver quarters.

Just so happens, when I walk out the door, the same man is using the pay-phone. I wait for hime to get off the phone and ask, " do you have anymore of these quarters". He does.......... Long story short, I bought/traded $32.00 in quarters. All are silver and from 62' 63 '64 and they are well worn.

Are these quarters worth anything, other than the .25???

CHeers and Thank You is advance!!
Greg

  • Close to a buck a piece I think.

  • They're worth anywhere between 4 and 5 times face value based on the price of silver - I think you got a good deal there! image

If they're well worn, they're probably just worth spot silver, which is more than 25 cents. Be sure to check if any of them have a little letter on the back below the eagle. If they do, and, under magnification, it's doubled, hang on to it. There are also some minute variations in design for 1964.

    Cool and alert find!

Also cool that your ears did the hard work on that!

Silver closed around $7.59 an ounce on Friday. If I'm calculating correctly you should be able to sell them for the silver at roughly $60.72,
just about doubling your money. Not bad.

Great transactions with oih82w8, JasonGaming, Moose1913.

Each quarter has .18084 total weight @ % $7.50 per ounce:

$1.36 (ea silver value) X 4 = $5.44 per dollar face in silver

Now the dealer is going to make his profit, I can't remember what price silver was when I sold but it was quite a bit less and the spread was:

    Dealer sell: $5.25 per dollar
    Dealer buy: $4.85 per dollar

I'm sure at $7.50 scrape silver is at least 5 times face at these prices. Call your coin shop and find out............... If you could get the full value of the silver $32 worth of quarter would be $174.08
