Original surfaces?

This eBay auction gives new meaning to the term "originality." image

Here's the seller's pitch:

"Patina is a matter of taste. Either a thin, even green or a dark brown are usually preferred. Crusty coins (lumpy green and/or hard soil) are noted, but not downgraded. Professional coin collectors want their coins un-touched."

Those are pretty scarce, but I think I'd rather have one that wasn't buried in a pile of camel dung for 60 years. image
  • Are they available in unc? This lot of three reminds me of the Tunisian 1/4,1/2 and 1 kharub that some dealers are selling together. Those are red p-l specimens though, unlike these original coins. image

They're probably even scarcer in Unc. Mintages were low, and the Bedouin have a habit of drilling holes in their coins to store them.

BTW, that icon is scary. image

Untouched ... since their last cleaning with laundry detergent? Certainly that must have eliminated all previous signs of "touching."image

  • Slimer is a much older ghost than I imagined! Funny how his green mucky-muck got so "crusty" over all those centuries.

  • What exactly is a "professional" coin collector? My wife says that's a dealer going broke... image
