Just received this coin, can't stop looking at it! Love the stylized tree with the oversized leaves, and the reverse bears one of my favorite representations of an eagle on any coin. Been wanting one of these for a while, took a long time to find the "right" coin for me. What do you think of this piece? Grade opinions?
Well, looks like this one stumped the forum Grade revealed on page 2..

that looks like a lock at MS66 with nice luster, clean fields and an abscence of any visible contacts on the eagle. the strike looks a bit less than full but still nice. i once found a coin that had a gold tone which made the leaves look like late autumn!!!!

It would have been cool if those coins came in proof. I'd love a Conn. Comm. proof.
(I'll reveal the grade that's on the holder once someone guesses it correctly )

65 would be the tops. Most CT's are 64 or 65. It's a nice design.
Most have had mottled uglyish toning and have been dipped. Attractive orig colors, especially colorful ones, are pretty tough.

<< <i>MS65....if it's any lower....the picture is hiding a lot >>
That's my opinion. If you are suggesting that it is not 65 or 66, and I detect a hint of something less, it is not apparent from the images. Maybe resubmit this sucker, or sell it to me.
Actually submitting can be a real big hassle -- thing more about selling it to me.
I think they were a little tough on this coin, I feel it is a strong 64 with claims to 65 for nice luster and surfaces, however there is a hairline below TRUST, a few light reed marks well hidden in the tree, as well as one more prominent reed mark on the eagle's wing that kind of blends into the feathers, you can see it a little better in this shot:

From the pics, that coin is no less than a 65 on a bad day.

i,d send it to NGC or PCGS for a second opinion.
Absolutely original and likable even in an upper grade!
No apology coin with definite claims.
Nice catch!

I had to use a magnifying glass on my computer screen to see the reed mark. The fields are so clean its hard to grade a coin like that by its image. I didn't see anything hidden in the tree but I'll take your word for it.
I'd send it into PCGS raw and expect at least a 64 if not a 65 to come back. Nice find !

Funny thing, though, and this came up in another recent thread: used to be, the grade on a slab represented the minimum guaranteed grade of the coin, and some opinions of the grade could indeed be higher, but you could be pretty sure it wasn't lower.
Nowadays, with the advent of the "crack and resubmit" mentality, the slabbed grade is percieved to mean the maximum grade one could justify awarding to a coin, and more and more, sometimes some people think the actual grade of the coin IS lower than the certified grade.
At this rate, someday all coins will be "maxed out" in their holders. Nice to know we're not there yet

63??? If the pic is accurate then that's one seriously undergraded coin.
