Murcerfan Interesting read on the Murcer bat - I would never have thought the bat would be going for that kind of money - I guess the Munson connection is driving the price? thanx for sharing

edit: here is a neat odd-ball Yankee item from 1952 - made by the C. McDonald Mfg Co - the emblems could be used as a display on a car or bike or used as an ice scraper. The set is inexpensive - I have about 12 of them - my Dodger/Yankee emblems are my favorite.
I'm not a Yankees fan per se, but there's no denying their historical players are among the most important and popular in the hobby. I do have a few interesting NY items. This 1962 Topps Venezuela #136 "Babe Joins The Yanks" is 1 of only 2 graded, and is the highest graded at PSA 5, believe it or not. Hermano Gilberto Ruth was traded from the Red Sox to the Yankees for 100,000 dolares because of "problemas economicos" in Boston.
These were gotten at the ballpark - special signing - unheard of today - the price? Zero! You can also get these thru the mail, I believe.
I wish I had the entire team but all the starters are here to include the very tough Munson! If anyone wants to read a very funny and kinda informative book on the Yankees, circa 1977-79, the one by Sparky Lyle - "The Bronx Zoo" - is pretty good and an ez read (though take some of it with a grain of salt ala "Ball Four" IMO.
Mike, I read the "Bronx Zoo" when it first came out. The book was very funny.
That is some great collection of photos you have. It's hard to get the primadonnas to sign nowadays. I doubt if you could get those in the mail from all of the current players.
I can't afford to buy Babe Ruth cards from his playing days (unless I give up my other pursuits), but I like some of the post-career issues. This one is from the 1962 Dickson Orde set, "Sports of the Countries." Babe is the only American baseball player represented, and he accounts for nearly all of the graded cards from the set.
The only Yankees related item I own. I'll be sending it to PSA this friday for grading.
I noticed that there is a PSA graded version of this ticket up in the current Sotheby's auction. They placed a $3000-$5000 estimate, so I'll be watching for the results, especially since my example is in better condition, and I'm actually going to get an assigned grade, not just the "authentic" tag...
Thanks for the compliements guys! I really lucked out, my family found this ticket in a book that belonged to my Great Grandfather, after he passed away in 1985. We kept the ticket, along with an older 1942 NY baseball schedule in a drawer up until a few years ago, when I put the ticket in a screwdown and started researching it. I have print outs of the NY Times from 1941 that show people buying these tickets, along with the story of the game itself. Turns out, the July 4th game was rained out so they used these tickets for a double header a few days later. I think that's why this ticket went unused.
I'll post when it gets back from PSA, I'm really curious to see how it'll grade. Otherwise, I'm keeping my eye on the Sotheby's auction, to see what that PSA full ticket sells for. Should be good.
Sean You have a vault? I don't even have a safe! Nice Munson! When did you get the Munson? I like the Stengel also - I have an auto on one of those ball shaped cards but can't find it!
I was just kidding about the vault comment (it's a Rocky Horror line: "One from the vault..."), although both cards are stored in BCW's Super Vault Boxes. I picked up the Munson a couple of years ago on eBay. I paid less than $250 for it, as the seller (bccexchange if I remember correctly) had it listed as Munston. Whoops! I got the Stengel from SportsCards Plus earlier this year. I'm not a big Yankee's fan (I live in Boston), but you can't collect the greats of the game without them!

Sean So was I.LOL Great price on the Munson! BTW, coming from Boston...have you seen the new show on Sunday...Boston Legal? Last Sunday night was a hoot!

This was the quote from Denny Crane on the show Boston Legal. The show is really good - it is sorta like LA Law on steroids!
He was lamenting on Sunday's episode about how "empty" he feels now that the curse has been lifted and they have won. He turns to Alan Shore and and asks him what it must be like to root for the Yankees. Great show - terrific sub/sub-plot piece. BTW, he met a one legged woman at the end of the show!!!
Be watchful - I think there will probably be a "Baby Boom" in about 9 months in Boston!

edit: maybe the Boston people should start a show and tell of their own!?

I will start with the WS Press pins from the great 1955 games! Sorry, Brooklyn prevailed.
The Dodger pin is prized by collectors, IMO, since it is the only WS they won in NY.
