I have been a part of the boards for a few weeks now and have met alot of great people and seen many new people come on board. I just thought maybe everyone might want to tell a bit about themselves so we can put a person with some of these great collections. May be a stupid idea but here goes nothing...
My name is Kenny Johnson. I just turned 20 and I have a two year old son. Had plans to go to college right after high school but they changed for obvious reasons. So now I am working in a production facility and taking classes when I can. I collected cards while I was younger but like most kids grew out of it and into girls and cars. Just now getting back into it and have been working on raw sets from various years and a Nolan Ryan Master set.
Look forward to meeting everyone!

My name is John Dolan, age 45, married, no kids and I am a non-recovering baseball card addict. I'm the managing editor of Vermont's second-largest newspaper, and live in a small, artsy-trendy town not far from the Killington Ski Resort. Yet like most Vermonters, I don't ski.
I was a collector since I was a boy and made the rounds of the card shows as a dealer during the boom of the late 1980s. There were a lot of shows back then, even in Vermont! I dabbled in modern stuff for awhile. I remember busting wax boxes of 1987 Donruss, looking for Mike Greenwell and Will Clark and Wally Joyner, and tossing Barry Bonds and Greg Maddux into the commons pile. I sold or traded most of my modern stuff, but I still have stacks of 1986-87 Canseco and 1989 Gregg Jefferies. I thought I should salt those away. *cough*
When I went into hobby hibernation in 1991 or so, PSA was in its infancy and graded cards were a novelty. A card was NM if you and the buyer/trading partner agreed it was NM. Some folks didn't even make a distinction. I remember people who wanted full book (SCD or Beckett) for their cards even if they'd been through the wringer -- creases, rounded corners, pinholes. These were mainly people who sold cards but didn't know anything about them, like antique store owners who would bring their binders to the weekly show. I was a better grader than some, but still most of my "NM" vintage cards wouldn't grade any better than PSA 6 today. In fact, to my disappointment they didn't!
I came back to the hobby last winter and took my lumps as I explored this strange new (to me) world of grading and eBay. At first I thought all the grading services were roughly equal. Ouch. It would have been worse, and more expensive, if I hadn't joined these boards. I quickly found out through my own submissions that my precious childhood cards weren't in nearly as good condition as I thought. Some of my "NM" were PSA 5 or 6, my "Ex-Mt" were as bad as PSA 3, as the graders would find little wrinkles or surface creases I never noticed. So I stopped sending in all but the very best examples, a process that is still ongoing.
And I've been buying PSA cards like a madman, selling them again as my interest shifts or my finances dictate or I get a nice grade on my own raw stuff that gives me duplicates. Still trying to find the bargains and dodge the scams.
That's my story. Thanks for inviting me to the meeting.
p.s. I am James Entzminger from Carrboro, NC. 35 years old (turn 36 tomorrow). Work with a continuing education outreach program at UNC-Chapel Hill. Started collecting football in 1975, and then baseball in late '70's. Kept at it until around 1988, then stopped when in college and needed money for school, food, beer, women, and other entertainment expenses. Started back about 4 years ago--all because of eBay. Currently collect vintage and some modern. Working on many player collections in baseball, football, and basketball as well as a few team sets. Also collect some modern commemorative sets and insert sets.
Welcome! Glad to have you as a member of the Ryan family. Please send me a PM with your address (click on the little lock up in the corner). I may have a few Nolies to send ya.

My name is Keith. I am 37 years old, married with 2 young boys (5 and 3). Life is good! I am a graphic designer (my wife and I own a small business) in a small sea-side town in Massachusetts. I have been collecting non-stop since 1975 and made the switch to slabs in 1997. My first PSA graded card was a 1976 Topps Nolan Ryan in PSA 8. Obviously, I collect Nolan Ryan. But I consider myself a well-rounded collector as I also actively pursue 1941 PlayBalls, 1956 Topps, 1959 Fleer Ted Williams, 1967 Topps, Red Sox stars, HOF rookies, MVPs, and CY winners. I also have a small "type" collection I am building with one high-grade card from as many sets as I can afford.
That's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
My name is Ted, I am new here to the boards myself and find them fascinating. I collected only pre 1972 stuff as a kid, back in the late 80's and early 90's. Like jrdolan I went to sleep in 1991 due to the many subsets and countless companies. Pinnacle, flair, sp to name a few. My prize collection is my complete 1955 topps set. I picked it for countless reasons but the grades were moslty 4/5. Still in the process of having it graded ...and upgraded(waiting for a 'special'). I am 28 years old, with no kids, not married, and live in a suburb of Boston. I am a mortgage broker and realtor here in Mass as well as New Hampshire. Nolan Ryan was my favorite player, and I have sent a bunch of cards in for the master set. I have a ton of rare stuff and odd ball issue of him. I even sent letters to his house a while back and received an auto. Not sure if these were real or not? Not sure which set to start after my 55 is totally graded. Something just affordable, eye appealing, not to plentiful, and filled with Hof'er!
I live in Lincoln, Nebraska
I am on step 10 of my 12 step program.
Collector of Vintage Golf cards! Let me know what you might have.
I've collected football cards since 1980, and never took a break or more than a few months. Today I concentrate on my Marcus Allen collection (raw and graded), RC's of other running backs (graded), and a couple of graded sets that are nearly complete (1962 Fleer PSA 8 and 1989 Score PSA 10). I've dabbled in practically everything the hobby has to offer, and soon I will make my first serious foray into pre-war cards. I haven't decided between 1888 N162 Goodwin Champions, 1933 Sport Kings, and 1935 National Chicle. I'm leaning towards N162.

I collect cards of my heroes from the 70's Big Red Machine, with emphasis on Rose and Bench. I don't think Pete is the kind of guy I'd like to hang around with, but he sure was fun to watch. I am also a vintage set collector and my current front-burner project is a high-grade '67 Topps baseball set. Casually, I'm also working on '57, '70, and '74 Topps baseball. I don't collect any newer cards, as I got burned on the late 80's and 90's stuff I used to play with. Older cards are just more fun for me anyway.
I started collecting at the age of 6 in 1974 and still have the very first card I ever got...a '74 Sparky Anderson. I'm also blessed with a dad who not only saved but took care of the cards he had as a kid. He's been very generous and over the years has passed on much of his older stuff to me. Someday, I'll inherit '53 Topps Mantle and Mays, '54-'56 sets, but I'd just as soon keep my dad around.
I have been buying PSA graded cards for years, but didn't submit anything until this year. I've been very pleased so far with my grades and PSA's service, and have about 300 more cards in queue for submission.
See y'all around,
Todd
My name is Al and I'm from Warren County, NJ. I'm 35 years old, married 13 years with three awesome kids. I collected cards as a kid, from 1977 until I grew out of it in 1982 or 83. As a kid, I had a really cool card shop that I used to go to in NJ, and I bought mostly vintage cards with an objective of having at least one card from every national set made. I actually got pretty far before I got bored. I picked it up again briefly after I got married in '91, collecting mostly modern stuff at that time. When I went broke shortly after my wedding, I sold a good deal of my best vintage cards so I could afford things like food.
Now, I own a small ad agency in NJ, and I've been able to pick up collecting again. Initially, I dove into Ebay and started buying anything that looked interesting, but lately I've been focusing on '53, '59, and '61 Topps, along with '38 Goudey. I'll also pick up cheap, low-grade '52 Topps and T206 when I see 'em. I'm slowly adding my '53s into the set registry as I get cards that are good enough to have graded - I usually buy raw cards as I find that to be more of a challenge, but I'll occasionally pick up some '53s in PSA-6 or better if I can find them cheap enough.
I also just picked up a few more recent vending boxes - '77s and '82s. Eventually I'd like to re-collect all the cards I bought in packs as a kid, only in NM condition. The ones I saved have all been, umm, "handled" quite a bit as they were traded around the neighborhood during my childhood. I'll probably never get rid of any of those cards, for sentimental reasons, but I'd also like to have nicer examples of them.
So that's me. Nice to meet everyone.
-Al
My name is Bryan. I reside in the High Desert of CA. I'm 50+ years old; married with no kids (not that I'm lazy, just no desire for them).
I've been a collector of comics and baseball cards since 1980. Gave up comics in 1984 (sold them and now I regret it), and have been been collecting cards to the present. I was mainly into baseball up until 1998, and now I just concentrate on Hockey as that is my passion sport. I'm a forsenic analyst in the field of biotechnology. I think what I do on a daily basis has helped me look for fine details in sportscards for potential grading with very positive results. I drink, smoke, gamble, and play video games (mainly war type games....WWII, Vietnam, and other types of shooters....I'm a vietnam vet and still have it in me). And thank goodness for cards; otherwise I'd really go nuts!

It is my pleasure to introduce you to me.
"Squirrel" to my family and friends and hopefully soon to be you. My reasons for getting on this web site is purely unselfish. I'm searching for a woman to be a friend who is open minded,, intelligent, whose physical beauty only compliments her inner beauty, goal oriented, willing to be a genuine, sincere friend whom I can share my inner-most thoughts and feelings with. I've been forgotten by some forsaken by many. My only constant companion is solitude and desire for comrades. We don't know each other but the majority of friends start out as strangers. We have nothing to lose, yet everything to gain. I give a premise of sincerity, understanding, respect and unconditional friendship. Let me please tell you more about myself. I enjoy sports, love music and a unconditional loving heart.
The circumstances surrounding my current incarceration is a chapter in my book in which once we get acquainted I will slowly let you read. I am no Angel, however I can admit my faults and mishaps.
So my friend I am hoping change my status of loneliness being my only constant companion

I'm Bob. I'm 44 years old. I live in Cincinnati with my wife and three kids (15, 6, and 3...boy, girl/demon, boy). I started collecting in 1967 and haven't stopped yet (although I haven't bought any "new" cards since 1991...oh, except for Topps Heritage which doesn't count as new). I collect mostly baseball cards, although I've dabbled in football and basketball cards. Since I collect a variety of baseball sets, I'll list what I don't collect because that'll save time.....ok, there's nothing I don't collect. I try to stick to the period between '51 and '91 (except for that Heritage thing).
I'm a computer programmer (have been for the last 21 years) and I have my own software company (we do educational software for students and teachers).
Miscellaneous personal information:
- I also collect Pogo books
- I only own one belt
- I like to wear hats but refuse to wear a fedora
- Often I find that I catch myself chewing ice
- I once sat next to a fat man named Marty at a restaurant and he was very loud
- My daughter renamed by youngest son Bash and claims he's her dog.
I think that's it. Welcome to the boards!

Perry already posted a great fictional report so I will be serious...Stone and serious may be an oxymoron!
Retired from the Army, been back into collecting straight since 1990. On and off since 1975.
I am working on autos and GU bats that are affordable. Will collect just about anything that doesn't desire to collect me.
I enjoy this board immensely and although I get sad when people go at it, have grown to learn that the passionate discussion of sports and memorabilia lends itself to arguments and wars.
I am vintage except for some modern issues - especially Topps Heritage. I still totally enjoy cracking boxes and boxes of baseball and will probably never tire of the habit.
If I can be of any help to anyone - please do not hesitate to pm or email me anytime!

edit: What has happened to KallMaloneSay, Cornholio and Aknot to name just a few?
I'm 54 years old, married to a beautiful gal 13 years my junior, have a wonderful daughter and collect any cards older than my wife. I maintain my lavish lifestyle by working in the commercial construction industry and I play guitar for a '60s tribute band (KOLA radio's house-oldies band, Eagle Eye Kid oughta know about that radio station).
"All evil needs to triumph is for good men to do nothing."
I started collecting in 1962, stopped and started umpteen times since then, was a show dealer from 1988 until 1991 when the proliferation of new sets and cards turned me off to the hobby until a couple years ago when I started buying & selling wax packs. Fast forward to this March when I purchased my 1st graded card ('69 Ernie Banks) and I've been gaining steam ever since . I collect just about everything but the top of the list in graded cards is in my signature.
Now collecting:
Topps Heritage
1957 Topps BB Ex+-NM
All Yaz Items 7+
Various Red Sox
Did I leave anything out?
Always looking to upgrade my Musial, Ken Boyer, and Ted Simmons cards. Will Buy & Trade.
I'm a 26-year-old attorney in Chicago, Illinois. I've actually just begun re-immersing myself into the card-collecting hobby after stopping in, oh, the early 90's. A couple of weeks ago, I decided to dust off my old collection to see if I had anything worthwhile. Looking around on the web, I learned about all the good stuff going on in the hobby, like third-party grading, and the like. Well, I pulled out a bunch of cards that I think would be worth grading, signed up at PSA, and am eagerly awaiting my materials so that I can get some of these cards graded.
At any rate, I just wanted to introduce myself because I intend to stay relatively active on these boards (even if my collection at this point pales in comparison to what I've seen from some of you guys in other posts!)
Take care.
Chris
My name is Andy (Hi Andy). I'm 27, live in VA, and sit at a desk and get paid for it. Like so many other people, I collected as a kid, and let it die out in the early '90s. I've recently picked up the hobby again. This time I've narrowed my focus a bit, especially given the range of cards available out there. My current modern projects include 2004 Topps Crackerjacks (Full size and all minis, minus the white backs) and 2004 Topps Heritage. Looking at those 2 sets I guess it's easy to guess I'm a sucker for vintage. Because of that I've decided to attempt the '51 Topps Red and Blue backs, raw and regardless of condition. If I can pick up a good condition copy I will, but I don't count on it. The only graded set I'm currently pursuing is the 1977 Topps set in PSA 8+. I've just started (5% complete, #22 on the list), and foresee it being one heck of a project, but it should be fun.
And we will now return you to your regularly scheduled message board.

I have been collecting older hockey cards for the last 2 years but collected back
in the 70's when I was a munchkin.
I am 40 years old and my education background is in Accounting but
I am not working in that field right now but involved indirectly with the Oil Patch.
I am happily married to a Woman who is at least a PSA 8 for the last 12 years
and I have no kids but 2 cats!
In particular, my favorite set is the 71/72 OPC NHL which I am currently working
on about 4 different ones.
Thanks
My name is Steve. I'm 42 years old and have been in the US Air Force since January of 1985. I'm currently stationed in Great Falls MT, but will be moving to San Antonio TX in December. I'm single with no kids, which gives me MORE MONEY to spend on my habit
I began collecting cards seriously in 1975 and amassed a fairly sizable collection. Then in 1991, I sold most of my collection. I still collected cards after that, but limited it to San Diego players and Nolan Ryan. Then in July of 2000, I discovered ebay. In July of 2003, I jumped back into collecting all the other cards I had collected in the 1970s and 80s.
I'm currently collecting cards of players from the San Diego sports teams, along with T3, T205, T206, T207 and 1933/34 Goudey HOFers. I also collect Nolan Ryan, Ted Williams and Hank Aaron cards.

welcome to Drew, chris, Andy, Jero, Nathan and Bobby - hope I didn't miss any recently new posters.
I hope you enjoy it here - this is a great place to hang and talk about whatever is on your mind.
In my case, there isn't much room - on my mind - that is!
Looking forward to your posts and contributions - a month ago, it was getting kind of quiet.

The name is Carlo, I'm 42 years old and I've lived is Essex county, New Jersey my whole life.
I am a impulsive collecter of everything - cards, coins, marbles, matchbooks, matchbox cars, you name it. My main passion is cards. I collect unopened vintage material from the 70's - racks and cellos. I also collect Thurman Munson cards and used to collect Jerry Rice - I have almost every Jerry Rice card made before 1998. As for newer stuff, I am a big Topps Chrome Rookie Refractor collector, especially rookie NFL quarterbacks. Football is my sport - I am a NY Giant fan, but have NY Jet season tickets (go figure).
My life story is similar to Kenny Johnson's, the person who started this thread. Married at 19, I had two kids by the time I was 21. We struggled initially but luckily, I got into the computer field in its infancy and have done very well. I am now a Senior Networking Engineer for a large financial institution and spend most of my workdays playing around with Cisco routers and wide area networks.
I've been married for 23 years to the same beautiful woman. The Lord has blessed me by bringing her into my life. I worship her. My oldest daughter is now 23 and is in a Masters program at Seton Hall University. My youngest daughter has also graduated college and is now teaching.
I am also new to these forums and look forward to making friends with all the intersting people here.

Collecting interests:
I started collecting cards in the mid 80's. The card market was booming around here and I have alot of fond memories of card shows, card shops, trips to the corner liquor store to buy packs for 50 cents a piece. Great stuff.
Fast forward to 2004 and my collection is primarily focused on vintage wax and PSA 9 basketball stars of the 70's. My goals for the future include high grade Goudeys and more vintage wax.
All the best to everyone!
I'm 31, married with a two year old and one on the way. Live in DeKalb, Il, work in sales at the second largest bank in the country, and cannot believe I'm posting on an internet message board. Wife is at the grocery store and daughter is sleeping: why not?
I collect mostly sixties and early seventies baseball HOF'ers in PSA 8 or better. Collecting cards has never been better, a ton of selection of great quality cards on the internet today coupled with PSA's grading means I can buy whatever I want and know what I am getting. Collected cards as a kid mostly at the local card shop and flea markets and always had to settle for what a dealer would sell and pay high Beckett for EX cards. Things sure have changed. Nice to also be able to sell my cards on Ebay and get more than 50 cents on the dollar.
I have learned a lot reading the PSA boards and want to thank all who post their knowledge.

Working on rebuilding my collection from years ago. Sets 1973-1985 with the anchor cards being psa 8 - psa 9 and will be working on all Mantles PSA 7 once the new year begins. Other than that, whatever catches my eye. Completely sick of newer other than game used of the Yankee greats!

I collected with my dad from 1980 thru 1986 and amassed quite a collection. My interest's were vintage 50's and 60's and he liked complete sets. At one point we had sets from 1948 thru 1984 all except the 52 topps.
Unfortunatly as i got into my 20's and needed $ for other things everything was sold off including our t206's and mantle's............. boy do i wish i still had the t206 cobb with cobb back and our nrmt 52 topps mantle.
But i'm back at it now and aspire to have some of the same cards and sets that brought so much joy and good times for dad and me.
