Type Set additions ?? NEWPS ? Upgrades ?

Haven't heard much from those of you that are working on Type Sets (raw/Dansco Album) ?

Personally i haven't added anything to mine recently. I did win a 2 cent'r but haven't received it yet. Not sure if it will be an upgrade or not.

Also won a really nice Civil War token but am waiting for that to arrive to.

Anyone have any NEWPS or upgrades to brag about ?

Nothing. Absolutely nothing recently. On the few times I'm finding something I can use and has the look I want, people are paying absolutely stupid money for it -- or the dealers who send e-mail alerts about their newps have already sold them before I get there.

I've said it before and I'll say it again -- in the segments of the coin market where I'm dwelling, there is NO sign of softening. In fact, it's getting crazier...which perhaps suggests to me I should wait on the sidelines for a while and build up a stash to use when (if?) this part of the market ever does falter.

This old thing just came yesterday (from Legend):

It's not a toned Morgan or SMS Kennedy, so I did not think anyone would be interested. image

Very, very nice RYKimage I'd love to one day put together a set of $3 Civil War dates and that is certainly the toughest.

Those are a couple of really special coins. The color of the two cent is great.

Puts my "upgrades" to shame image

Haven't added anything U.S. in a while. Prices for the good stuff have been way too high, so I'm working on a couple of Darkside type sets.

All I have left is a Large Cent to complete my typeset (and mine all stay IN the PCGS holder)

Nice piece Sandhawk - Just bought one myself to fill out the gold page in my standard type set, just waiting for it to arrive.

I just added a nice little nickel that is a twin to my 1883 no cents. I tried the milk jug technique to photograph her. And sorry about the rotationimage

Dorkgirl - Very nice and clean addition! image
  • I recently actually did a downgrade...my silver washington quarter. I had a 64 proof in that hole, but it had a spot on it that really bugged me.

Not long ago, I got a 64 quarter in change...a really nice AU+

I swapped the proof out with the slightly circed 64. Sure I could afford to buy a real nice piece, but I thought it kinda neat to be able to fill that hole with a nice coin at face value 40 years after the factimage

Just picked this up a couple minutes ago on Ebay for one of my 7070 sets... I'm not a big fan of Barber coinage, but I suppose they're a neccesary evil.

I am expecting delivery of a couple of Seated Quarters tomorrow. Those are the last two holes, not including the 50 cent Commem holes which I don't plan to fill (I did fill the $1 hole with a Buff Dopllar, just because I already had it).

I'll work on pictures over the weekend. This could be a challenge, getting good illumination on half a page of coins at one time. Any tips?
  • My coin budget is maxed out for this year. Going to work on the last 4 remaining open holes next year...unless something special becomes available this year. And the early large cents sure are tough to fill. It will probably take me all of next year to fill those two holes.

From what little I've seen of that market, it doesn't seem to be showing many signs of weakening, either. Misery loves company, I suppose.

Yep (yawn) i have one of those too. Not sure what to do with it, i already have a couple V nickels in those holes (yawn)
