Believe it or not, I've seen that look before on circulating coins. It's probably real.

I have a couple very similar. I'm sure it's real toning. I got mine from albums, BUT, I'm sure they came from mint sets. I've seen many mint sets with that toning. My DAD has a run of 40's-50's mint sts and they have the same color. He's had them for over 20 years now. Hope this helps. Ray

I have a 1958 mint set in original packaging where many of the silver coins have that same appearance. Heavily toned on one side and hardly any toning on the other. I'm not sure if the 1954 mint set was package in the same way though. I also have a set of Roosies in a Dansco album that are starting to tone although none of them are quite that far along. If I were to venture a guess, it looks more like mint set toning.

NT, it does not look like 1954-S mint toning. Looks like a rather nice coin though. These seem to be hit or miss if they get slabbed at PCGS. mike

Its hard to tell how the obverse grades but the reverse looks to be MS66 quality - mostly due to the marks across the lower to mid point of the torch. The lower bands do not quite look split. The market for MS66 1954S coins isn't very strong so getting the coin back in a MS66 grade might not even cover your submission costs.

If you're looking to make a profit on the coin and think that getting itgraded would help, you might want to ponder that a bit more, in my opinion. Now, if the coin has absolutely fully split reverse bands and the obverse is solid MS67, then by all means, risk the $20 and send it in. The 54S in MS67FB is a pop-1 coin today (and a white one at that) and this coin in a MS67FB holder would be quite valuable. If it comes back MS66FB, it probably a $35-65 coin.

However, if you just like the coin, keep it as is and just enjoy it! My 2 cents......

I'll guess NT, MS65. Those hits on the torch stand out to me. Maybe it's the photo, but there a appears to be a bridge at the right-center of the lower band that could prevent getting the FB designation. Because it's a toner, I'd send it in. JMHO

It's probably an endroll toned MS65 with no FB. I wouldn't send it in by virtue of the fact that these coins seem to be bringing in anywhere from $12-20.

I was naturally going to say AT, but with that reverse it makes sense to say NT. I've also seen that look before, infact on one of mine I had before, it was slabbed by PCGS. I would give it MS-64 in grade.
