Is there any overton 1832 variety that has a doubled nose, or recut nose?

    Dave,

It is a lock 63 IMO...

They badly mistook strike for wear...

I think that the possible double strike might have had something to do with it.

Ok, I think this is an O.113, has obv. 9 and rev. J. There's a die dot at the throat, to the left of the curl. There's a short prong at the tip of the right wing, and the arrowheads are crude. A2 (the first A in America) is slightly lower than the M. It's an R2 marriage. edit: I think you're right about the strike, Overton's plate coin shows very weak right talons, as well as very weak "Pluribus." Damn, I should have bid on the coin! Guaranteed AU58 and yes, might make mint state. Outstanding eye appeal! image

Any opinion about the nose Dave?

You can see the intense unbroken luster on the coin...

ah, the nose, well, doubled (or tripled) profile is not uncommon on these, but I'm no expert on that subject.

    Stman,
If I resubmit the coin and it comes back anything less than a MS62 ..................................................................................................................................................
    ..........................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................................I'll resubmit it again....image

This is the type of coin that will sell for 62 money. So I'd like it better in a 55 or 58 holder. BTW, to make things more complicated....
...... even if you get it in a MS holder..... it might be unc, but not MSimage

    Stman,

There is no way I can convince you that the coin is fully Mint State until you hold it in your hand. There is no wear...none...All of the points that look flat are still covered in mint luster...

I think that the coin will end up in a 63 holder...and sell for nearly twice bid...

    That's a great looking coin.

Check it carefully. The rim, the whole coin. If you really don't see wear (I think it's wear, but I don't have the coin in hand, so that point may be mute) and think the coin is unc., I would think there is something else going on with the coin as to why pcgs slapped it in an au/58 holder. It may truly be mint state, and instead of bagging the coin for some "hidden" problem pcgs simply netted the coin down. They do that (so does NGC), and quite regularly. Not a bad thing, just something to consider.

This was an Ebay coin? pcgs au/58? If you paid under $400-$500 you did very, very well. It looks wonderful.

Nice coin! No need to quibble about the grade.
  • coinlieutenant, nice coin. Now where are all these Bust Halves for sale you have at the bottom of your page?
  • If you're keeping her... I say just leave her as is... but even in your picture, I can see how some of the flat spots are just strike weakness, and not wear, particularly the Reverse spots on the Wings and the Eagles Brow...

Double profiles have been found on other 1832 O.113's, this always adds interest to the coin. It may not have been graded AU58 from the strike weakness in the drapery lines and opposite PLURIBUS. Excellent coin!image
