Germany 1950F Mark - Grade?

It's probably overgraded in the auction. I'm hoping it's AU or better. Your opinion is appreciated.

Hard to tell from the photos and I dont grade very well at all. But I think its worth what you paid for it.

I have bought several raw 1 Marks with photos like that and they have turned out better than I expected. So I hope yours looks less grainy in hand image

I've never trusted that seller's pictures. A lot of the coins he calls Unc. seem to have wear and sometimes look cleaned.

From the detail the coin looks mid grade AU to me. Looks like some wear across the eagle's breast.

  • Yeah, the guy's grading is questionable. He also pennypinches on combined shipping, exchange and taxes. I suppose he has to in order to make any money off the mostly low-end stuff he sells. I also grabbed a Panama 1/10 Balboa piece off him. He does seem to have a few nice coins here and there...we'll see.

It's hard to tell from a picture but it's hard to picture this as unc.

I'm guessing it's a nice AU with lousy surfaces from cleaning.

  • If his picture is accurate it looks cleaned to me - just a guess on the grade AU50 cleaned. I am not real good with grading this foreign stuff yet so I could be way off.
Hope it looks better in hand, they often do. image

  • From the poor picture wear on Eagle High Points. 1 on reverse looks like it is no longer sharp on the edges. Could also be some contact marks on reverse. Above H and on the C. High end EF. Just my opinion. I don't call myself a expert in grading so take this with a grain of salt.

  • Can't really tell from that scan. Could be anywhere from XF to Unc. Scanners tend to wash out any luster, so can't say about that either. (Compare the background which may well have been of a solid color.) I've bought a couple items from this dealer and my experience with him is that his grading is "ball-parkish." For instance, a fully lustrous AU-50 may be described as "Unc." but one with slightly impaired luster might be called "AU". I generally bid a full grade lower than he lists just to be on the safe side ... and only if the item is valuable enough to ignore the shipping cost.
