I'm going to Brazil, what should I look out for in the way of Brazilian GOLD coins?

Common, interesting ones is what I would be most interested in. What do they trade in relation to melt would also me appreciative.

Uncleaned, undamaged examples of republic gold coins (1889 or later) are all rare. If you can get one for close to melt value, you are doing well, but watch out for fakes. Also, many Brazilian collectors (and dealers) polish their coins, so watch out for that as well.

The earlier gold coins from Dom Pedro II are more common and trade closer to melt value unless uncirculated. True BU examples are rare.

Where are you going in Brazil?
