The American Card Catalog (Burdick). For early tobacco, candy, periodical, food, candy issues, etc etc. Great reference, lousy price guide. $50.00 for a T206 Wagner? Geesh! .
American Tobacco Cards (Terry Mitchell, Bob Forbes). Beautifully done, has pictured examples of most "N" and "T" cards, approx values, # in each set, rarity, etc. Good book to look through if you want to start an early tobacco set and not sure which one to start with.

Collecting - n2, n13, n28, n29, n43, n162, n184, t3, t6, t9, t200, tobacco albums, tobacco advertising cards, tobacco banners (that picture the 19th century card sets).
That is a good book, picked mine up last month. I particularly like the fact it also covers Panini stickers and many obscure British/European modern issues. It also lists by subject matter rather then issuing company, which is great if you don't know the maker.
The Murrays is the standard used by all the dealers in the UK. It is comprehensive on the British cigarette and trade cards sets but no so good on non-British stuff. I have never used any of the American catalogs so cannot compare but I find it useful. They have just brought out the 2005 book and I have seen copies of the 2004 on Ebay quite cheap. There are hardly any differences between the 2 so would recommend picking up an older copy to see if you like it.

Or, in my case, you know which 1 you want to start with - and then end up wanting to work on dozens
