93 Finest Refractors question

Check this one out-

A seemingly reputable seller has listed a few 1993 Finest refractors. All the cards he are listing are all-stars, which have a green background, and are much harder to tell from scans if they are refractors or not - there is no notation on the card otherwise than just the way it looks.

Here are some pics and links:

This one actually looks the most legit of the bunch from the scan, but it's so hard to tell - you can only really notice a difference in the name area.

But here's the one that really got me - one of the cards he is offering is a Griffey refractor, supposedly a PSA 9. The cert number checks out, but the flip in the scan has obviously been photoshopped. I don't understand why he would photoshop that part of the flip though - the cert number looks ok to me.

For comparisons sake, here are 2 cards currently up that I feel to be totally legit.

Notice the shine on the Brian Harvey, even under the slab. And an all-star, for comparison:

It's hard to tell, but you can see the difference in some of the silver areas of the Gooden.

I'm dumb and have edited accordingly.

in my opinion, they all look good.. the Griffey is the only one that looks "less" shiny..

    Jeff,

My vote? You've lost your marbles. They all look legit to me. What leads you to believe the scan on Griffey has been PhotoShopped?

There is no reason to think that these auctions are not legit.

    3820 feedback rating

    No negative
  • I agree that they look pretty legit to me.

And a selling in that feedback range is not likely to flip to the darkside so easily, especially for what he will pull off these cards.

I don't see the photoshopping here either.
I am looking for Nolan Ryan cards, esp. OPC and rare oddball issues, graded or not. Also I need quite a few 1956 Topps, PSA 6 or higher

    Current Sets in Progress:
1956 Topps Master Set PSA 6 or better
    1978 Topps PSA 9 or 10
    1981 Donruss Golf PSA 9 or 10
    1989 Upper Deck PSA 9 or 10
    Nolan Ryan Master Set
    Pete Rose Master Set

Maybe this thread is like an Ebay scam but in this case they stole Mr. Mudflap's Collectors Universe ID and are making bogus posts using his account!? (j/k)

I swear I haven't been drinking - if you look at the flip on the Griffey, I think there is a rectangular block around his name and the "refractor" line. Maybe it's just me being stupid - it wouldn't be the first time. That's what these boards are here for anyways - one person to say something stupid and the peanut gallery to chime in. On that note, I picked up some SWEET NGS cards for next to nothing yesterday - anybody heard of this outfit?

So crap who knows now - I'm on campus on a different computer, and now I can't see the glaring photoshop work I saw on my crappy NGS-9000 computer at home. I guess that just proves my point that I should stay away from anything too shiny.
  • I checked my HD & found a few PSA 1993 Finest Refs (I think SOME are from the same seller)?
The Refractors, in the auction, are legit (I hope).
    More scans to compare,

Damn! Now I have to get my clothes changed, and have my carpets steamed! You can't be posting such erotic photos of that Ryan Refractor on this forum. It's dangerous man!

  • Although I don't collect 93 Refractors, I could not resist sending a shout out to "iBuyUsell". Anyone who can blend a Smith's lyric into a sportscard forum is a friend of mine. I recognized it immediately and was glad to see it.
