st. gaudens

i sent in a coin. going for MS64, but coins has 2 small copper stops on obverse, will this knock a grade off?

    Depending on size and location, yes, it could. It might not. And yet it might by a point or two.

    We can't tell without a picture. Otherwise, we're just guessing.

    Copper spots are a nice sign of originality in early gold and preferred by some collectors if not distracting. Not sure the impact on a more modern gold coin like a Saint. Agree with the others, they will need to be non-intrusive.

    At the ANA grading seminar taught by NGC graders, they said copper spots do not hurt the grade. During one of our tests, I missed the grade on a Saint badly because I assumed the (large and distracting) spot on the reverse would really take the grade down.

    New collectors, please educate yourself before spending money on coins; there are people who believe that using numismatic knowledge to rip the naïve is what this hobby is all about.
