Same cards different sets

I have been looking thru some of fogles and brancas sets and am just in amazement. It got me wondering, because they have the same cards in several sets, do they have multiples of the card or can a card be in two registered sets. For example can the Ryan cards in my master set be in a basic set as well. One more thing about those guys....they must have some really understanding wives!

You can definitely register the same card in multiple sets! If you have a 1975 Topps Ryan, you can put it in the Basic Set, Master Set, Topps Set, HOF Set, and the 1975 Topps Set.
  • How is it identified that the same person has the card. If I try to register your 68 ryan in my set and it is already in yours i cant. but if i try to register my 68 in multiples i can?
  • I can't say that I've tried to register one card in multiple sets, but I have a card I'm trying to register for my 1977 Topps Baseball set that someone else has registered. I have the card in hand, so I'm just waiting the 3 days they say to wait before I send in a scan of the card.

  • I think the cert # is linked to the user as well as the set. So, if a different user tries to register the cert. # it will raise a flag regardless of the set. Don't quote me on this but I am pretty sure this is how it works. This begs the question that if you sell the card, will you have to delete it from all the sets it is in before the new owner can register it? My guess is "Yes". image

When I try and register a card that's registered in someone else's set already (I have the card in hand), I get the message:

<< <i>Cert number 11901743 cannot be a part of this registered set because it is already registered by another member.

It is the responsibility of members to delete cards from their sets when the cards have been sold, however sometimes members neglect to do so. An automatic email has been sent to the original owner requesting that the card be released. Please allow 3 business days, then try to add the item again. Note that you must have possession of the item in question before you are permitted to add it to your set. If after 3 business days, if you are still not able to add the item, please email us at setregistry@collectors.com.

For faster release, email (or fax 949-833-7660) an image of the front AND back of the card in question. You will be notified when the card is available for data entry. >>

    So, I'd say you're 100% correct.
