One Ebay seller you do not wish to do business with...

By pure coincidence I came across a not-so-reliable seller recently - fortunately not because I bought from him and got cheated!

I was looking at the feedback of a guy with whom I was competing about a scarce Finnish coin. I just wanted to find out whether he was from Finland or not, but then my attention was caught by some negative feedback just a few steps down the list. Have a look here and notice what the seller called "bread-and-salt" writes to him - and especially what the follow-up says!

I then checked the feedback of this "bread-and-salt". Have a look here. 95.1% is not impressive. So, why are people dissatisfied?

Sept. 25.: "Item misrepresented. Be very very very carefull". Bread-and-salt replies: "BUYER IS EXPECTED ORIGINALE SPECIMENS FOR ONLY 50$". See the auction here and judge for yourselves...

July 6.: "The note is washed and ironed. The seller didn't declared this"

March 23.: "Worthless modern copy of prop leaflet"

Feb. 14.: "THIS LIER COUNTERFAIT THE NOTES" (buyer has a feedback of -3, though)

Jan . 10.: "not sent spain set, send forged set austria color photocopy" (buyer has been NARU'ed, though)

Nov. 21 (2003): "Counterfait note.Be ware of this seller"

And I could go on. So, does this happen because the seller doesn't know what he is selling or is it intentional? Well, fortunately he's got some good friends who helps him with lots of positive feedback!

The member called opaty999 - who happens to be registered in Yugoslavia just like bread-and-salt and who happens to have made his feedback private - has left bread-and-salt no less than 35 positives in large groups. And the member slavonian0 - who is registered in Croatia - has left him 18 positives in one large group. These clusters of positive feedback have been left within the last year after bread-and-salt recieved quite a bit of negative feedback a while ago.

In my opinion this stinks. So if you are into banknotes, be sure to avoid this guy!

Yes, "bread-and-salt" has a negative reputation. I was warned by several people after bidding on one of his auctions several years ago.

Also, the complaints regarding mail problems with Italian customers is, unfortunately, "unsuspicious" in of itself. I've not bought much from Italy, but have had a higher problem rate with their postal service than in other problematical countries like Argentina or Singapore -- and this seems to be a widely noted complaint. On the other hand, the seller's refund problems appear to be entirely his own.
