Are you a "Natural Born" coin collector?

I went to the eye doctor today because they said I couldn't get new lenses after 4 years (because mine were so scratched up). I couldn't see anything far away, so she gave me a test to see what I could see close up and she was amazed, she said I was so near-sighted that my eyes were like magnifying glasses. I said cool, thats the only thing I use them forimage-------------------------------------------BigE(BTW, she said I was perfect for Lasick, but I would lose my near vision----pass)

No I'm not natural born. I was hatched from an egg in a dinosaur cave eons ago, but I'm a natural born picky pessismist grumpy tightwad so therefore I'm a natural collector.
Change that we can believe in is that change which is 90% silver.

    I used to be.

I too am very near-sighted and up until the last year or two I could see details on a coin like a magnifying glass also.

However, time is not being friendly to me and I now collect larger series because I can no longer make out the smaller details on smaller coins. image

Not sure. As much as the rest of my body is breaking down increasingly with age, my eyes remain the one reliable body part I have left. My vision is, and has been, 20/15 or a little better for many years.

Not yet. I thought I was well on my way until two weeks ago when I actually uttered: "Hey, nice coin, I'll take it."

Suddenly I realized my mistake in not deprecating the item and hemming and hawing and asking for some time to think about it and making at least SOME remark on a deficiency along with a wheedling, high whiny voice asking if it was "the best he could do" followed by a long sigh of resignation. In other words, a complete failure of several synapses.

    So......back to coin collector school.

I am near sighted too. According to my eye-doc, I have the equivalent to a 5X lens if I hold an object closert than about 6 inches away from my eye and look over top or underneath my glasses. The doc fitted me with contact lenses and they really improved my far vision, but I couldn't see the close up details anymore so I quit wearing them and went back to my glasses so I could keep looking at coins and stuff close up without a magnifier.

I believe I just read an article that stated many of the best coin graders in the country are near sighted. I too am near sighted, cant see distant road signs, letters, etc, but show me the guy who writes on rice, and its easy to see.
