Does anyone ever bid on multiple lot gold in auctions?

I noticed that sometimes there are a few gold coins gathered in a single lot in a large auction. Usually they are relatively common coins in lower grades. I never get a chance to see what these end up selling for to see if there are any good deals out there. The coins are usually not pictured in the catalog, and the website does not give pictures either. I was just wondering if anyone ever bids on these types of items and what your results were.

No, not me. Whenever I have physically looked at these lots (gold, silver, or otherwise), the coins in the multiple coin lots have been low-end or a nice coin is paired with a couple that I would not want. This topic has come up here before, and I remember reading that others have occasionally founds nice coins in these lots and one or two even suggested that auction companies may conspire to put a couple nice coins in these lots and buy them from the auction for inventory.

As ANR includes in their multi-coin lot descriptions:
    In-person inspection is recommended.
I would recommend this advice for almost all auction lots. image
