How to eliminate the cent AND the nickel....GOVERNMENT style.

topstuftopstuf Posts: 14,803 ✭✭✭✭✭
Start making 2 cent and 3 cent pieces again. Require all persons to carry one of each at all times. Post guards to make sure.

Then if the change came out to a penny, the citizen would have to tender the right denomination to correct the change.

Simple?

That way, the government could ELIMINATE the costs of making TWO coins by only making two MORE !!!

This is brilliant......I'm callin my congressman.

what they'll really do is add the two and three cent pieces as replacements for the cent and nickel and not get rid of the cent and nickel.

You think cashiers can't make correct change now ... !!!

    Joe.
  • But, if I have a .02 and a .03, and you have a .02 and a .03, and you owe me .01,
I'll give you my .02 for your .03, which will result in making us both lawbreakers.

They didn't really think this one through, did they?

I don't want any part of it! image

Currency reform...drop a zero, so a dollar becomes a dime, and a dime becomes a penny. Get rid of the cent and nickel.

Gas goes down to 20 cents a gallon, a movie ticket is 60 cents, a new car would be $2000-$3000 again, and our minimum wage would be 50 cents per hour.

Everyone would be happy that prices are so low for everything, and they'd quickly get over the fact that they only have $100 in their bank accounts and $1000 to retire on.

Our national deficit would go back down to the billions, and the Euro would be worth ten times the dollar. We'd never be able to travel again, but then again who needs to?

The Sacagawea dollar would be completely unnecessary (a $10 coin in current dollars), and quarters would remain the workhorse of our economy - just like people want it.

Yes, let's get rid of the cent and nickel - they are worthless anyway, right? image

They should add a zero so that we all live in million dollar houses and drive $100,000 cars.

  • I can't remember the specifics but I read an article where the mathmatician proposed something like a 27 cent coin as the denomination that would allow the least number of coins to be given in change on a regular basis.
Some call it an accumulation not a collection

    Worthless? Worthless?
Send me all your Nickels and Pennies please! I'll take them off your hands... only because they are "worthless."
You could kick my dog... take my wife (PLEASE)... but don't say my coins are worthless!

Actually, I love dealers who think Jefferson's are worthless, so you can continue to think whatever you want... the best one I've found was a dealer who thought a 53-S MS64FS was worthless (he had it in his bargin bin).

I'm still waiting for the .9 coin... cause everytime I fill up my car, I get screwed!

    Enough of my rant!

In true government fashion, I have already developed an improvement, (an amendment if you will). The only thing that could POSSIBLY make your idea better is if both the 2 and 3 cent coins should be made out of gold, making each coin worth it's actual weight in gold.

In case you didn't catch the mood ( image ) at the end of my post, I too get tired of hearing people say money is worthless - in any amount. I should know, I have well over a quarter million cents...call THAT worthless!
